Totally fair point

Starting yes but when your back 4 drops right off by fearing any ball over the top and then your forwards are isolated you are ****ed

We've done it all year

Yesterday you could see first half sterling up top half heartedly close down while Gerrard was wail and coutinho you could tell was instructed to retreat not press

It was very clear in his deliberate movements left and deep that rather than instruct them to press up and choke the long ball off Rodgers was instructing the side he keeps saying has to play with energy and intent to drop off

We surrendered their half of pitch to them while they pressed 3 and 4 up on us leaving only lovern with space who never ran it out like he could but back passed in a diffident manner of a defeated man

Rodgers can spoof all he wants but he hadn't the belief himself to cut loose on them or arsenal or Utd

He's bottled it not just the players

It was poor....and every formation he tried was poor. Looked like the players didn't know whether to drop or press......utter confusion...nobody knew their job....which is the very least that you can expect in an FA cup semi final.....and that blame should lay squarely at the feet of one man imo.

thats the annoying thing. rodgers blamed the players but in all the sherwood shots the only shots of rodgers were him at half time wiggling his fingers at pascoe and him celebrating coutinhos goal in his imitation of shankley.

I didn't see him ever scream for them to go press up so my view is he talks big about energy and press but sends them out to drop off.

I agree with you. The team needs to drap back and move forward as a unit so there is no isolation and big gaps between the lines.
I think it's been down to his instructions\management. Well it has to be I guess.

It was evident in games we won too, like Swansea for example.

Teams now know to push onto our back line which separates it from the rest of the team cos no one drops back to help them out when we are trying to keep the ball and build it from the back. I mean, to stump our passing game just by putting a man on Skrtel and Lorven, or Sktrel Sakho.. goes to show how easy it is.

We are not playng as a team right now, it's not coherent, it's all over the shop

If we drop back as a unit to keep the ball and build it from the back, an opponent has two options, follow us back and get sucked out of their positions or just press to as far as 10 -15 yards inside our own half to try clog midfield, either way it leaves us space one way or the other.

Really sums up the whole match. Incoherent approach to the match and incoherent tactics. <ok>

What's worse is, 20 minutes of that totally rattled the team and we never recoved. Loren and Skrte were ****ting it every time the ball was punted into Benteke or anytime they ran at us down the left. Only when Villa dropped back to defend the lead in te last 20 mins did we move up the pitch, but that was donw to Villa letting us.
