Brady had a good game today because Evans kept finding him with a pass from left side midfield. Who do you think was giving the ball to Brady. The Invisible Man ?
Nothing wrong at all with Corry Evans today, thought he had a decent game. Is he the next in line because McShane and McLean weren't playing?
Evans was great today I don't understand some people sometimes and whoever rang humberside slagging Alex bruce off must be blind the back 3 where awsome. Can't complain about anyone today great team performance
Competent rather than great. That slender lead irked somewhat and we were always one blooper away from a spawny draw. Our superiority deserved a 2 or 3 goal cushion- as SB well knows.
Yeah, I thought he was the hub that everything revolved around first half especially when we were having a purple patch. Did look to run out of steam second half but maybe he was already carrying a knock. Thought Cairney did well when he came on too. Just need to get someone in that can get on the end of things a bit more regularly and I can see us definitely in the running for an automatic slot!
I think its harsh that Evans gets any stick regarding his performance today, meyler and quinn picked up stupid bookings early in the game and after that Evans was the only one in that midfield 3 still putting in the tackles to break up play, it was obvious that meyler and quinn were conscious of getting a 2nd yellow and pulled out of challenges, Evans does a lot of the work that goes un-noticed in a defensive manner that allows meyley, quinn, elmo and brady to bomb forward.
I'm guite happy to see Cairney replace Meyler, he's a talented lad and Evas doesn't deserve the grief he's getting, he made a few more loose passes than he did in the past couple of games, but he still played his part(Meyler gave the ball away just as much, if not more).
I'd be happy to see it if he carries on from today. He did well when he came on. The best part of his game is his keeping of possession and picking out a man. To add to that, he needs to get forward more and get into the box, like Meyler did today.
Melyer gave the ball away far more than Evans today, I thought he was pretty poor tbh, he tried all sorts of stupid tricks and flicks in our own half and lost it. The goal covered up for his performance big time.
I heard today that Sunderland have definately recalled Meyler and it was his last game today. Anyone else heard that? At times he payed as if he was not really bothered but in the last ten minutes seemed to step up a gear and had 3 cgances.Saved-bar- scored. What was the celebration about? SEEMS I SHOULD HAVE SCROLLED DOWN AND READ ALL TODAYS THREADS BEFORE BOTHERING TO TYPE THIS.
I like Evans, he does his job and is very intelligent, more so than Cairney though Cairney being more mobile might help him loads, ten out of ten for whoever did his rehab work am not clued up on the medical staff
Cairney's got more quality than Meyler, don't get me wrong he's done a good filler job but Cairney is a HC player & i've a feeling he'll do well
Cairney's lack of pace has really held him back...can't leave a man for dead, can't track back etc Hopefully Cairney-lite can push on and demand to be picked by his quality
Surprised that anyone can slag off any of our midfielders if im being honest. The reason we are doing so well atm is our midfield. We are completely controlling the game in the middle of the park and strangling the life out of the opposition. Huddersfield created nothing today, watford created nothing last week. This isnt just cos they werent very good (may have been the case for huddersfield to some extent) but it is because we have a really good balance in the midfield at the moment. The wingers are getting forward and delivering quality balls into the box but they are also tracking back and working defensively. Evans, who i thought had a good game today, gets stuck in and can pass the ball about, Quinn who never stops working all game and hardly gives the ball away, and Meyler who has a touch of class about him and despite one dodgy backheel i remember, i thought he was very good today and it would be a big blow if we lost him. If he does go back then im sure cairney will slot straight in but for people to be moaning about our midfield at the moment is just very strange imo!
I didn't rate Meyler at first, but you can't argue with 2 goals in 2 games from a central midfielder. I'd keep him if it's an option beyond January. Subject of course to what happens over the next 2 weeks. I'd try and keep him until the end of the season.
Thought Evans did well on Saturday, he's starting to become good at disrupting play, rather than the fancier stuff he did at Man U reserves. Cairney will slot in fine, he looked a lot more agile on Saturday than he did in pre season but I fear his haircut has become a little too sensible.
