The referee did make "a clear and obvious error" in that, due to a mistake of fact (whether or not the ball struck White's arm), she initially allowed the goal. Once she'd seen what actually happened (i.e. that the ball had indeed struck White's arm), she correctly applied the new handball rule and disallowed the goal. That's how I see it anyway!

Robbie, if you thought it was clear and obvious that the ball struck her arm then you had a better view than any of the cameras.

It genuinely looked to me that the tustling defender actually pulled Ellen's arm towards the ball!

The co-commentating "expert analyst" starts off uncertain but ends up correctly predicting that the goal will be disallowed. I think both she and the referee got it right. White's arm played a crucial part in manoeuvring the ball past the defender and making the shot possible. Without the intervention of her arm, the trajectory of the ball would have been rather different.

I prefer Dion Dublin's view that the goal should have stood <ok>

I think Howson's been playing right back for Miďdlesbrough in pre season got a feeling he started his career as a right back
