It’s as bad as I’ve ever seen. Spurs could easily finish 16th which hasn’t happened for a long time. Not even close to being acceptable.
The obvious point is Mason is likely to play a safety-first 4231, which could demonstrate how many of the issues are tactical and/or structural Though playing 4231 with a likely pivot of Bergvall and Bentancur isn't going to be particularly "safety first"
Could even be 17th! Only 2 points separate us with Wolves and West Ham. What a time to be alive. Thank **** the bottom three are genuinely dog **** and all practically down already, most relegation battles involve 5-6 teams. Scary really.
I think sensibility would go along way to improving what we’re seeing to be honest. Porro overlapping, Bentancur as an 8, Maddison a 10, Son cutting in and not hugging the line and Vicario told to not try and play like Ederson… just those relatively basic things alone would make up about 10 points in my opinion.
Porro underlapping isn't an issue per se as that's his game, but it does lead him and Johnson tripping over each other in the same space - but Udogie clearly needs to be on the overlap The issue is we seem to be set up so the left flank is our designated flank for creativity, which makes us far too easy to set up against as the right flank is reliant on either Porro or whoever is playing RW creating something on their own rather than as part of some tactical plan That being said, a pivot of Gray partnered with either Bergvall or Bentancur is workable as that does let us use a box midfield (which is this season's trendy meta) as Mickey Van pushes up into the pivot while Bergvall/Lolo push up to be a second No10 - though the obvious issue there is we would still be keeping Sonny & Johnson out wide instead of letting them cut in as a box midfield basically has us playing 3241 when in possession
The obvious thing to say about Ange is that, ten years ago, he could have made a dent in the Premier League managing somebody like Fulham or Palace ...that being said, at some point in time somebody further up the food chain would have come calling and shone a light on whether he did a good job as he was a good manager like Poch at Southampton, or if he was somebody taking all the credit for the structure which was in place before and after him like Rodgers at Swansea - and we can all guess which one he likely would have been within 3-4 months of his new job
This theory that we've not sacked him for financial reasons is absurd. Each position we drop in the PL costs £3m and there is another £15m at stake in the EL plus the CL income next year. So someone who could get more out of the squad than Ange was potentially worth upwards of £100m a few matches ago.
Maybe it costs Levy more to sack him if we are still in a cup, a higher pay off if we are still in Europe, knowing how Levy operates he could be waiting to sack him once we are knocked out the Europa, to save a few quid.
The appointment of Venkatesham as CEO adds to the unfolding picture. It's become clearer and clearer that Levy's got no idea how to put a stop to the rot that set in during the stadium build. I would venture that penny has dropped with someone in or around the club. Maybe the representatives of Lewis's trusts shareholding, maybe an investor, maybe even COYS Daniel himself? As CEO, Venkatesham should be running the whole show. Unlike when Paratici was brought in and Daniel had already ****ed up the possibility of employing one of the club's primary choices, maybe just maybe, this time, he'll leave well alone? This would make sense of the ****ing around regarding Paratici's on/off future role. One can only hope that finally, this is a change of real significance and that running the club like a market stall is at an end. Postecoglou's appointment would be a fitting justification for getting Levy's hands off any levers of power relating to the football club. We need to do better than what he has offered since 2017...it should not be difficult. The new CEO gets to terminate Levy's final and possibly worst choice of coach, in Ange, and appoint a successor... ...I hope.
Sacked Jose before the final so Levy pays less compensation Keeping Ange on till Europe is no longer possible, thus paying less compensation. That’s all this is all about nothing to do with our football fortunes
In the case of the ubermensch, sacking him when we did felt like it wasn't jut down to Levy Given how miserable the squad were, you have to wonder if there was a degree of collusion to get rid of him in the pettiest way imaginable
I have voted same for the same reason. Whichever of EL exit or season end comes first, then I change to yes,
I am holding fire until I return on Friday from a short city break to Prague with the wife and daughter. In the interim, I will no doubt find an appropriate bar on Thursday night to wallow in a pit of despair....
Ali Gold’s not held too much back either: “There was sympathy and understanding for Postecoglou midway through this season when Spurs were struck down by an unprecedented injury crisis which only seemed to worsen each week. Yet those days are gone. Postecoglou has a full squad and little has changed when it comes to results. Everything promised under the former Celtic boss has thus far failed to materialise to any lasting degree.”
Yeh but you forget one important factor Levy is penny wise, pound stupid. best way to make money is to build winning teams, he hasn’t cracked that code so he won’t see the logic you are suggesting
Ouch Even the ones who like Ange seem to have turned on him. The end for the hapless Aussie is close.
