Sorry Dai got to disagree with you here. He is the poorest striker we have had in recent years. I think even having Danny Graham back would be an improvement. I want him gone a nd a striker in who will actually get in the box and score a few goals.gomis will get there dont worry about it. He is looking better with every game he plays and he is certainly not the first striker to not score at the beginning of his contract and he wont be the last....If you look you can see many strikers in bigger teams than us struggling to score at the moment, Its the hardest position to play especially if you are the lone striker as it is you who gets all the unnecessary flack most of the time... gomis will come good soon i have no doubt...
Still not convinced, even more so after his frenetic, fruitless performance on Saturday. Imo Gomis lacks the instinct of a true striker.
On Saturday I saw a striker disconnected from his team. He was an unreachable target with no end product imo. He didn't hold up the ball effectively, ran the oddest of routes in the box and fluffed his lines in front of goal.
His odd movement, especially in the box, makes it impossible for our midfield to find him without telepathic intervention. This is compounded by the fact that he cant, or wont, do the simplest of things such as getting into position for crosses or attack the near post. He always runs the wrong route, is slow to react and is often as flat footed as a Mallard.
We play a simple game of zonal support, players know their positions and individual assignments. Both Cork and Naughton, Fulton any player, can slip seamlessly into the pattern and not look out of place but Gomis still looks out of place, out of sync, out of inspiration and out of ideas.
My theory is that in his past Gomis has emphasised his speed and size (= power) with a little skill to be successfull. Now playing in the prem league, where size doesn't necessarily matter, I think he is finding it hard to adjust his game and up the skill side of his attributes. Now, having to rely on skill and footballing intelligence he is found wanting, just m o.
At the moment, and since he's arrived, Gomis is singing a different hymn to everyone else which is not acceptable. Monk needs to realise this and drop him to the bench soon and pass the torch to someone, anyone, else.
'Monk needs to realise this and drop him to the bench soon and pass the torch to someone, anyone, else.'
I can't see that happening after the promises Monk made following Gomis' interview in France and I would expect Huw to be pushing for our biggest investment to be playing.
Although I don't think he's in the Vasquez category I think we should have off loaded in January even if it had meant taking a hit, financially.
Simply not, he has to get in the box to score goals and he just doesnt do it. Be lucky to scoe 3 or 4 before he leaves at the end of the season. He's alright! I must say his technique which for me is the most important is below par. But I mean just the size and power the athletism of him will make sure he scores goal. Compared to danny graham he's much more built for top level football, but to me he's not really that special. Probably just good enough to be a prem striker..
As we are in my view safe this season monk is right to persevere with gomis and try new things with him after all we pay him a lot of money. I would try him in the old michu position of playing behind the striker and just ahead of the midfield in a 4-4-1-1 or 4-3-2-1 formation. anything is worth a try....
I agree with Monk when he says " watch him fly...........on Air France back to another team"

Yes he did in the europa league and although not scoring in the league was always a goal threat. If you actually think that Gomis is quality the rest of our players must be world class. He overs four fiths of **** all in and around the box. he does run around outside the area aimlessly chasing shadows.Monk is spot on its what I've been saying regarding Gomis, he has too much quality to be a failure in the premiership. Bony didn't score in his first 8 or 9 games. It takes time to adjust to the pace of the premiership, now that he is going to have an extended run in the side I agree with Monk when he says " watch him fly".
Dai he scored twice against a L2 side in the cup and has played just about every minute since then but he is up against better opposition and has offered nothing in terms of a goal threat.Well i still believe he has something there dying to come out as he is a quality striker whatever fans think. he has been great in training if you listen to reports and in my view it's more psychological than anything else and he needs that first goal to get him going. I remember Rooney going through the same thing a couple of years ago plus many other strikers in all divisions. I think monk is right to carry on playing him for the rest of the season as im sure he will come good....
Isn't that where Gylfi / Jonjo are playing?
Given Monk's comments in the post we may be in for surprises in attack
'GARRY Monk has revealed he is focusing on his frontline ahead of Wednesday's trip to West Brom as Swansea City bid to add to their attacking threat.
"It's about defending as a team, because that's something I feel we have missed in the past, and I think we have improved in that area.
"Now I am trying to get some attacking work done as well.'
