I've watched pretty much every minute of every game this season and Scowen is without doubt the most mobile midfielder that we have and something different to Power, Dobson and Leadbitter. This isn't the only issue though, the blind faith in Will Grigg coming good is poor judgement and to drop our joint top league goalscorer last season was another poor decision. I congratulate PP for changing it and bringing Gooch on as without that change we would have lost but yesterday's starting 11 should be consigned to the history books as it will not win us games. I think if he had of introduced Gooch at half time and Graham a bit earlier we might have won. It's 2 points dropped yesterday and yes it's earlier days but we might miss out on automatic promotion by a point therefore he has to get it right and quick.
It’s not ‘a bit of perspective’ after one game though is it? It’s a very clear and justified opinion having already seen Parkinson take us through 2 horrific runs since he arrived at the club, the last one culminating in us kissing the playoffs. It’s having a lot of the ball against one of the weakest sides in the league who have won a couple of times in 20 games, but never really looking like winning it. Its seeing the shame old shoddy selection with no forward thinking midfielder, and massive delays in changes to personnel despite it being crystal that we were struggling. And it’s dropping a player involved in 5 goals 4 days earlier for one that was woeful last week. Those of us that are against the setup didn’t decide that yesterday, we just had our opinions formed over an awful 9 months of it galvanised.
You may be right about Scowen but you are talking about a game against aston villa kids and meaningless pre season. There was clamour for him last season and when he got his chance, he was every bit as bad as Dobson. Worse, actually. Hopeless. There is no denying PP endured a woeful run when he arrived but since he sorted the players' fitness, mcgeady, weve been better. I think we look much more cohesive, organised than we did under Ross. We lack sparkle in final third, that much is obvious. PP is very much the pragmatic manager, hes not going to make loads of changes every game, he wants to keep it tight and solid. I really dont see a new manager coming in and suddenly things will improve greatly. The players are playing for him and we will start winning games. I'm sure of it.
He came to us half fit and then had 2 injuries mate, at the time he came over we had QPR fans telling us they were annoyed he’d left, and Barnsley fans telling us he’d been their best player while they had him. He gets fit, has a great preseason, and he does brilliant. Villa youth it may have been but his set piece deliveries were superb, we ****ed every single one of them yesterday. For me, you pick players in form. Scowen clearly was that and he’s different to the other 2, I’d never have both of Max and Dobson in the same midfield and Max is more influence, so it’s him plus one. We’ve Neil and Diamond who hopefully add a bit as well but the concern is there’s no suggestion Parkinson will change a thing, he’s stubborn as a mule and that’s gonna be brutally exposed. We dominated a terrible side yesterday, we’ve now got Oxford, Peterborough and Charlton in a row. Let’s see how much ball we have and how much we create against those sides. I fear that we couldn’t beat a god awful side yesterday, how will we fare against these 3 without a change of tact?
I dont really care what QPR fans say. If he was that decent, not sure why they punted him in January. He was fit pretty much the whole time hes been here. He'll get his chance now and let's hope he take its then. Again, what have Neil and Diamond done to merit a place above the likes of gooch, graham etc on the bench. Are they better just cos they are younger.? I'm sure they will get opportunities but I dont blame the manager for being cautious yesterday
You don’t care what fans of a club he played many games for have to say, but you’ll write him off after 5 for us? Ok mate. I can see where you are with it. Neil and Diamond deserves a place there for being quality in pre season and on current form, same as Scowen. I’ve nowt further to add to you, you keep your opinion right there, You’re entitled to it, I’ve nowt further to discuss with you around it.
Frankly it is fcuking grim being a Sunderland fan and season ticket holder atm. I did not use my streaming pass yesterday.. cos I had something better to do...
Whether the fans are for him or against him his record will be put to the test , he has now had two transfer windows to put things in place as to how he wants to set up his team and that team will define his future . Anything other than a half decent start to the season will see him and his team put under pressure and we now have some hard looking fixtures coming up so he needs to get the side playing and winning as nothing but automatic promotion has to be achieved .
i cannot remember scowen being given a chance last season, i can remember him getting thrown into a couple of 'fighting for our lives' games and maybe one actual start where (imho) he was not at his best but you could tell there was a more tenacious, attack minded player in there, i honestly do not want to be putting any of our players down and really want to see parky come good because that would mean we were at the top of the league and playing well. at the risk of repeating myself again, play the lads in form who are creating/scoring/defending well...then you have a damn good chance of winning plenty of games...stick with the same formula that failed so often last season and you end up with the same struggles, clawing out draws at home when a win should be straight forward. afraid i fail to see any other view as any other view is going back to the negativity of last season.
Excellent post mate. When we arrived in the 3rd division, last time, I never had the slightest doubt we'd finish top and I enjoyed every minute of it. Probably my favourite season in 50 years. This time I've never felt confident and haven't enjoyed all but a handful of games. The only consolation is that Newcastle are also shyte, just higher.
Against Oxford he was a game changer. Battered by the wind and absolutely on the back foot, he came on and changed the direction of the game. Very tidy on the ball, retained possession and got the ball to feet rather than hoofing clearances which were coming straight back. He also had a poor game where he started, but the whole team were poor that day.
Fair enough. Let's see how he gets on. All our best players seem to be the ones who dont play. Funny that
Why can he not get Benji to play ? him and Mcgeady could have changed the game yesterday, i bet if Parky was sacked the next manager would bring Mcgeady straight back in.And why change a winning team, people say if he does well give him a chance, well there must have been 5 players last Tuesday who stood out. These first 45 mins are a worry as well, do they go out there and say let's not give a toss, give the ball away put bad crosses in etc in the first half, can we not start well ? the next 3 are tough as well Oxford will want to 'put things right' against us, the Peterboro H Charlton A are going to be there or there abouts, he said we should have been out of sight ! having a bad 70 mins costs you. Players what dive and con the ref as well like them are doing us.
Yes just before last season was cancelled, you said he had transformed the team and club. You wanted him to be in charge this season wether we got promoted last season or not. If so, you've surely got stick with him for more than 1 game, surely.
FFS, do you have all my posts on a filing system At the time I posted it was looking good. I've changed my mind since then ... ... is that OK with you or do I have to pay some kind of penalty. If so send me your bank details and the amount, it'll be there in no time.
Is that really all you have to do on a Sunday night, seriously? Doing a search on the opinion of a Sunderland manager, by a certain poster, at a particular point in time. Haway man, sort yer life out ffs.
