Bristol City sign striker Jonathan Kodjia for about £2m

You must log in or register to see images

Jonathan Kodjia won Ligue 2's Player of the Year award last season
Newly promoted Championship side Bristol City have signed striker Jonathan Kodjia for a fee of about £2m from French side Angers SCO.

Kodjia, 25, scored 15 goals in 29 games in Ligue 2 last season, helping the club to promotion to the top flight.

The Frenchman collected last term's Ligue 2 Player of the Year award.

"Jonathan has great pace, has scored some fantastic goals, and will fit into the young group we already have," said manager Steve Cotterill.

Kodjia has signed a three-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.

Thanks Guys but I'm well aware who brought Kodjia to City, just tried to highlight Supcon's silly comment.
It's not easy to keep up from 12,000 miles away.
£13million or so profit, pretty good that.

2 different things RP. Of course LJ didn't buy him, I, nor he has ever claimed he did. What LJ did do though was have the foresight to realise that by selling JK would give him much needed funds to strengthen elsewhere.

We all know you hate LJ but you can't just re-invent the truth to suit your view of him.

What's the 'silly comment' RP?

You say LJ has had more money than any other manager in our history - yes that's correct, but you remain blinkered/blinded by hate as to the why. I gave you the why, he sold JK to afford this, not to mention that year on year it costs more to compete/survive in the higher echelons of English football.

Guess what, our next manager regardless of if you love or hate him will probably have more again than LJ has had.

The only 'silly comment' was yours by suggesting that it doesn't count that LJ recouped more money on a single player than any other manager in our history (almost 3 times the previous highest) just because he didn't sign him.... Grow up!

'What's the 'silly comment' RP?

Here we go.
'SL has always backed his managers financially' and 'LJ got more to spend as he recouped more (in Kodija) than any other manager in our history.....'
Were the first daft comments as SL has never spent anything like he's backed Lee. To compare is laughable.
I reckon the £2million we paid for Kodjia was a record transfer for City at the time.
We have since paid the same figure on a player who has started possibly one game.
The money SL spent on the likes of Engvall, Djuric, O'Dowda, Magnusson and Fammy, just makes me think you are at best, uninformed, or you have a poor grasp of simple mathematics.
I wont bother with the lesser transfers eg Paterson or Taylor or the loanees like Dionny, EliassonWoodrow. They don't come free.
Hey what about the 'crocs' we've loaned/signed - Pissano, Hegeler, and O'Neil . They've been 'out forever'. They don't come free.
To even question the 'crocs' will be seen as heresy on here.

Then you surpass yourself with :
'What LJ did do though was have the foresight to realise that by selling JK would give him much needed funds to strengthen elsewhere'.
Let me try to get through to you.
SL personally handled Kodjia's transfer, Lee had zilch to do with it.
SL at the time was forever saying ' we'll only sell Kodjia to a Premiership Club'. He was very astutely upping the transfer value.
You may or may not remember how BCFC had their fingers burnt with Nicky Maynard, no way was SL going to allow it to happen again.
Lee had nothing to do with it at all.
To infer he played any part is plain silly.

But hey I'm wrong because I 'hate' Lee, nothing to do with logic.
You're not on your own though Supcon, any of the slightest observation on here about Lee is deemed 'just because you hate LJ' or and the latest put down is the 'shooters are out'.
Just ask the likes Wiz or Angelic.

FYI - I may 'hate' him, not as much as he was a player, the luckiest manager ever to be employed with his CV, and don't worry 1For I won't mention the same record he holds at Barnsley, but fairs fair I have praised Lee continually on the football we played pre Christmas.
And the funniest part in all the above transfer dealings is that our most saleable assets, Flint, Korey, Pack and Joe Bryan, were here before Ashton and Lee.

Couple of questions for you Redprintt.....Do you think it was the wrong decision by SL to employ LJ instead of Cotts?
Had Cotts stayed and not relegated us, with the money given to LJ, that he would have made us a better outfit in entertaining football and league position?

I won't get into the Kodja saga or go over the LJ hate campaign, My shooters are out was aimed at RR & co that kneejerk after every bloody result....does my head in..
I do acknowledge that you & Wiz have praised LJ's team this season especially up to Christmas and in all fairness I think everyone did, but I do think that in LJ we still have a very good manager in the making and has our club close to his heart to make good things happen........I want him to have more time to do it...

1For, thanks for a considered response.

I think it was time for SC to leave with the budget he was given, I don't think the hierarchy understood the strength of the Championship.
Who knows what SC could have achieved with the totally different budget afforded to Lee.
To be fair to SL, when SC was manager the money went on the staff and ground, sure you remember watching City play with 1 side/end gone and the revenue streams that went with it. For all that we enjoyed a fantastic season with Cotts, not that easy with the budget he had and I have to say I'll be eternally grateful for that season.
Yes I think it was wrong to employ Lee as his CV just didn't stack up.

You want Lee to have more time and I respect your unwavering support for him.
I hope you understand I also want him to well as if City do well we're all happy.

Finally, you wondered whether SL will back him this summer.
You've no need to be worried, SL will do everything to ensure City move forward with Lee at the helm.
If next Christmas we're 2nd in the table again I hope SL doesn't approach the January window as he did this season.
However, there's always a however, should we be in a relegation battle then Lee's position might become untenable.

I DON'T want that to happen.

I agree, if LJ is with us next season and we are anywhere near a relegation battle he would need to go.....in fact I think I would steel RR's banners!!
Not sure CV's are the be all to everything, what cv did Jose have before Joining Porto? Interpreter for the late great BR at Barcelona wasn't he?
I think this season has just about earned him enough time to go again next season but with huge expectations.....promotion. Anything less will be seen as failure.
SL like many of us aren't getting any younger.....he will want to see success for everything he's put in and I believe he will do what it takes to achieve it.
NB.. That January window is a nightmare for all concerned in my eyes.. uncertain of your own players and usually very expensive mediocre players to choose from, especially strikers!!

Great football comments guys - pretty specific to your club on this "cross channel" thread but I'm enjoying the chat between you lot. <ok>

Thanks Sparkey, me and 1For go back to the BBC 606 days.
Think we have a mutual respect for each, back in the 70/80s we both played and managed at a decent level.
We agree on virtually everything except the name Johnson, Gary or Lee.
Nothing wrong with that.
Whatever happened to Hanu Redprintt?....blast from the past!!

Trouble is a few clowns on here believe everything we're told, probably to say to fans 'we tried'.
City never got anywhere with Gayle and Gray.
Funny you never answered about anything else - Your assertion was stupid.
I'll add RODney and Reliant Robin to the Stupidity Farm.
Hey, keep believing.
Ignorance is bliss.
