Does anybody else live with one of these in their village or town.
It’s called a spite wall, if you don’t get in with your neighbour you slap one of these up over their windows.

Do you know or have a rough idea in monetary terms how much gas and electric is the standing charge per day
Now and
Estimated in January
Cheers

Sorry for the delay in replying Vince, been in a sunny beer garden and could hardly read my phone.

Until 1st October the standing charge for gas with Shell Energy is 27.22p per day and the unit charge is 7.225p per KWh

The standing charge for electricity is 48.91p per day and the unit charge 27.090p per KWh

I have no idea what the new charges are after October sorry.

Cheers Gelders, I am all for stopping my direct debit if other people are willing to, let the bastards sweat for it and pay just before they threaten you with court and then do it again.
Make sure you don't go into any debt with them Rooch, they will put you on a prepayment meter which is more expensive again.

Same here Rooch, I begrudge paying extortionate prices over here to subsidise European bills

It’s strange what the media tells us but my mate who lives in Malaga says our fuel rises are know where near as bad as there’s. So someone is spouting crap some where.
I listened to someone on the radio this morning and they said something like, by next October our energy bills in the UK will have risen by 180% and energy bills in France have risen in the same period by 40% and are now capped so they won't rise any further (I might have the figures wrong in my dotage, but it was a massive difference). Ours is also going up again in January 2023 and April 2023 if there is no intervention.

The price cap should be reported as the unit charge, that's where the confusion comes from.

People think the price is capped at the headline figure reported but the that's an average.

I'm fortunate I got a fixed rate in February of 29p for electric and 9p for gas, but millions of people wont be so fortunate and it needs action now

Good work mate! I agree, it's lazy and inaccurate just reporting the average figure, like people are incapable of understanding what an increase in electricity unit price per KWH from 28p to 52p means and gas from 7p to 15p on average. That is what the cap is. Has grated on me for a while, more than the increase strangely. That'll probably change when it comes to paying the bastard like haha!

I chewed for ages about coming out of it as I thought prices wouldn't go so high, bloody glad I didnt now though.

I honestly worry for those on pre payment meters or variable rate deals

It'll be impossible for some folk mate but there will be more support coming. One way or the other we'll all end up paying for it over many years be it tax or added to bills. Needs doing like. I fixed in March at 37p and 11p paying more over summer but hardly use any then. Thought Russia would make sure it got worse before the end of next winter. One of my pals fixed until March 2023 in March 2021 because a nice lad who was trying knocked on his door. He's fixed til then at 3p for gas and nowt for electric too, will save him thousands by accident haha

I reckon Ofgem are in collusion with the suppliers to deliberately make it confusing. That way they can sneakily apply 125% rises to daily charge in the hope it won’t be noticed. Ofgem boss today saying only way to help is for govt to give us more ( of what is our) money - doesn’t see that he could order companies not to increase daily charge .

Just been sent an invitation to interview for a high profile job in Bristol which, in all honesty, is beyond our capabilities. What made me laugh was that, at the end of the job description, it said,

" Unfortunately, dependants cannot be accommodated, 1 cat may be considered on a case by case basis."

WTF, they're going to examine applicant's cats and make a decision based on what exactly <laugh>

"Thank you for attending your recent interview. We found you to be ideal but, unfortunately, your cat's purring was incesant and quite irritating. We hope you find suitable employment in the future.'
