We know that this is not for all of us, but for the vast majority of us it's brilliant . . . . well done, lads <applause>

This might be an AI 'photo, but it's a great story, and they apparently hired another 20 with downs syndrome :)
There's a coffee shop in roermond called brownies with downies brilliant place by all accounts.

In Vietnam , I went to a restaurant which was entirely staffed ( watched over by trainers/ mentors ) by uneducated street kids , orphans or from families in total poverty. The idea , simply to give them confidence and a bit of a leg up . We saw them being shown “ live” on the job , how to place knives and forks, fold serviettes ,take orders , deliver the food , when to take empties away etc etc
We were asked to help by being patient and understanding . There was no need, even though a table of about 15 , the service was exceptional , the courtesy and friendliness on another level

When I get into Sunderland, and need quick grub, I always go to this cafe rather than a chain or a Greggs.

The food is good and the staff are all decent lads who seem to have a need to be employed, it seems to be a sort of self help thingy. I’d just rather give my money to an entity that seems to be trying to help people.

First I’ve heard of this Smug - very interesting. There’s a couple of people I will be passing this information on to. Cheers.

Just been watching a bat flying around the garden presumably after insects, not sure I've ever seen one in the UK before.
I see loads mate. The back of my house backs onto woods, so see them regular, they're fast as owt in flight.
Ive just been out to have a look but couldn't see any bats. Just a few rabbits on the grass and the sound of owls in the woods.

I have a Tawney Owl that must be in need of a girlfriend ...

... he hoots from noon to dusk, then presumably falls down knackered.

I feel like I made a big step forward today.
I went out and bought filler, paint etc and made a start on redecorating this room.

This was the Mrs dialysis room, and once all the equipment was removed it left a bit of a mess. Ive been putting it off, just didn't like going in there much, it wasnt a happy place.
Well today, the holes have been filled, will sand down tomorrow, then will redecorate from top to bottom.

This will be returned back to a bedroom for my little Grandson, time for happier memories to be made.

Very distinctive in their flight pattern aren't they, jerky movements but really rapid and precise.

There's tons of bats around Ouston. I see them regularly, especially if I take the dog through the woods at dusk on a warm evening.

Ive never actually seen any of the owls so no idea what kind they are. They dont half make a racket though.

Same here. I've heard owls for years if I'm awake during the night but I'd never seen one.

One night I was coming home late and drove up a narrow unlit farm track back to mine. I saw something in the road and slowed down. A tawny owl was eating something dead in the middle of the road. It just stared at me in absolute disgust as it flew up into the air out of the way of my car. So the only time I've seen one was when I pissed it off :emoticon-0111-blush

I've been watching a busy Mrs Blackbird in my back garden this evening. She was pulling the leaves off a yarrow plant. It's got really soft fern like leaves. She was carrying them into a ceanothus which is a dense evergreen bush. I suspect she might be having babies in there but I can't go poking around for a look in case I scare her away.
