If you're eating breakfast and want to enjoy it, keep talksport off. Shaun Custis and recently peddled from the Times Henry Winter having a tug over Newcastle. Far too much self importance and arrogance, unbelievable.
Off piste a bit....off to watch grandson Refereeing, 2.30 ko for an adult game, he's been rained off for the last three weekends and it's cost him £200+ in lost fees, a lot of money for a 16 year old. Next weekend is a biggy for him, he's running the line in one cup final and Refereeing in another, weather permitting. I'll leave the lads in your capable hands this afternoon as we hunt out a cracking away win HTL. Moved this from the match thread... What an awful game for a young kid to Ref...both teams moaned and kicked each other the whole game, the weather was terrible, high wind and horizontal rain, he dished out 2 red cards and 3 yellows all deserved and players were swinging punches behind his back and both benches whinged the whole game, it was a disgrace. He had to deal with grown men trying to cheat the whole game and it was pure luck no one got badly injured. There's no wonder young Refs are walking away from the game, he even said he felt like packing it in but he wont, he's out doing two games today. One team expected to win easily but found themselves 0-2 down just after HT, that's when the trouble really started, finished 2-2, they should be ashamed of themselves.
Doesn't get any worse than that, what a nightmare game to ref, so if he can deal with that and be willing to crack on he can deal with anything.
Anyone miss their old local ? I have drank in Washington for years and some of the places I used to frequent are no longer standing or used as something else. Washington Miners Welfare Club was the best of them all it then became The Pitshaft and last chance ranch, had some cracking weekends in there over the years. Usworth Top Club is still standing but no longer a drinking establishment, it was a big club and in its heyday was the best in the area. Washington Football Club was canny as well and handily placed next door to The Welfare !! The Coach & Horses and The Legion also gone and although I didnt get in as often it was good to pop in every other week to see the local lads. Thats 5 large establishments in a small area of around 1 square mile that have gone over the last 20 years, what I would give to have a pint in each one again !!
My uncle had the vic at fatfield rd His cousin had the black bush All this in the early 70s never realy drank in Washington though
Familiar with both Vincemac, I actually know the couple who are currently running the Vic and they are making a good go of things. The Black Bush is constantly opening and closing, its been like that for years now, its to isolated from the rest of Washington Village to make it part of the pub run.
During an 8 month driving holiday around Italy, Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica we encountered various intriguiging cultures and lifestyles. It highlighted that Britain was a pub culture, at its heart which was fair enough. At one time the local had a football/darts/pool team, organised excursions, charity events and all kinds of other things ... ... nowadays, our culture is pretty much shopping
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/foo...T&cvid=0875f7d418ea4146bb19f99bf65d74be&ei=31 It seems that quite a few Clubs have turned down Eberechi Eze, as he has fought his way to being a Pro Footballer, most of them Southern Clubs. Only one Northern Club gets a mention, SAFC. He failed to impress on a trial. Just shows how hard it is to win them all. To be fair, of late, we seem to be getting more than our fair share of these decisions right.
Yeah I was a bit young them days However I took my grandad into the honest boy up the havvanha area when he lived a knowbury rd circa 1972
My youngest brother is the chef in the Vic. Was the Mrs local in the 80's &90's, she lived behind where the snooker club was...sky bar I think it's called now. Had many a good night in the Vic, including getting on the wrong side of John Kinross once!!
Off topic a bit Down the road to Bradey square there was a co op type building I built the wall to separate the bingo hall from the shop 1971 I think
Currently in rural Turkey enjoying life, speaking to the Turks here about all things life and especially politics and current affairs, the Turks are a mad lot like, a bunch of complete mad lads. It's like 1920 still for some of them.
Top marks for the Cranberries, I'm guessing 'Linger' is the one ... ... never been able to listen to Sam Fender, is he any good?
