Off piste a bit....off to watch grandson Refereeing, 2.30 ko for an adult game, he's been rained off for the last three weekends and it's cost him £200+ in lost fees, a lot of money for a 16 year old.
Next weekend is a biggy for him, he's running the line in one cup final and Refereeing in another, weather permitting.
I'll leave the lads in your capable hands this afternoon as we hunt out a cracking away win HTL.
Moved this from the match thread...
What an awful game for a young kid to Ref...both teams moaned and kicked each other the whole game, the weather was terrible, high wind and horizontal rain, he dished out 2 red cards and 3 yellows all deserved and players were swinging punches behind his back and both benches whinged the whole game, it was a disgrace.
He had to deal with grown men trying to cheat the whole game and it was pure luck no one got badly injured.
There's no wonder young Refs are walking away from the game, he even said he felt like packing it in but he wont, he's out doing two games today.
One team expected to win easily but found themselves 0-2 down just after HT, that's when the trouble really started, finished 2-2, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Familiar with both Vincemac, I actually know the couple who are currently running the Vic and they are making a good go of things. The Black Bush is constantly opening and closing, its been like that for years now, its to isolated from the rest of Washington Village to make it part of the pub run.My uncle had the vic at fatfield rd
His cousin had the black bush
All this in the early 70s never realy drank in Washington though
Anyone miss their old local ?
I have drank in Washington for years and some of the places I used to frequent are no longer standing or used as something else. Washington Miners Welfare Club was the best of them all it then became The Pitshaft and last chance ranch, had some cracking weekends in there over the years. Usworth Top Club is still standing but no longer a drinking establishment, it was a big club and in its heyday was the best in the area. Washington Football Club was canny as well and handily placed next door to The Welfare !! The Coach & Horses and The Legion also gone and although I didnt get in as often it was good to pop in every other week to see the local lads. Thats 5 large establishments in a small area of around 1 square mile that have gone over the last 20 years, what I would give to have a pint in each one again !!

Was the Mrs local in the 80's &90's, she lived behind where the snooker club was...sky bar I think it's called now.
Had many a good night in the Vic, including getting on the wrong side of John Kinross once!!
A few people got on the wrong side of John, to be fair it wasn’t difficult to get on his wrong sideMy youngest brother is the chef in the Vic.
