Training on the track around the pitch at Roker Park, straw on the ground.
Just before my time, I never saw Charlie Hurley play, but I remember most of the others.
Nice to see a big back page spread on Sunderland in the Journal, and a small single column at the side previewing the following days mags v Middlesbrough game. Wouldn't happen these days.
Man, that half-back line! How much would it be worth at todays prices?

I was over the North East at the weekend and the Spar garage in Kirkby Stephen which is in the middle of nowhere was selling petrol 2p less than the Tesco Superstore in Stockton. Robbing bastsrds.

Love Kirkby Stephen, my brother lived there for many years.

I personally believe supermarkets are taking the piss. Government should step in but are getting huge revenues from it.

I would like to see the House of Lords drastically reduced or abolished altogether, it has vastly out numbered the Common and being funded by the public purse without the public having any say.
Basically it's become a place for chum in the lower chamber.

You need an upper chamber to act as a safety valve against the lower chamber. Its members shouldn't be political appointees though so I'd do away with life peerages getting a seat in there.

As l said it does need reducing, many turn up tick in and get paid a handsome purse.
My real issue is it gets more members year on year without much accountability to us the public.

It's a necessary evil unfortunately, but you are right it needs reforming to fit in with the democratic model and the costs dramatically reduced

Mrs sister had to go to Peterborough head office on Saturday to get her son's. We are all currently on the way to airport now. So it was worth the trip.

My head going to boxed in with my 2 kids plus the Mrs sisters 2. Good job there are some elders to babysit.

Well, just had an eye test, said my eyes are healthy which is good, but my eyes have gotten progressively worse over the last two years.

Yay?

Anyway, I forgot how expensive getting glasses were, and how I have to pay extra to get the lenses thinned.

Boo.

My son had to get the grandson's passport which had run out and went to Peterborough passport office and got it sorted, so it is worth going to your one to get it done. Be prepared to wait.

This is a strange one.

I was having a chat with the boss, Earl of Galloway, the other night and we got onto football.

He's an Ipswich supporter which, as I guessed, was due to a family connection to the Cobbold family @Oldsandy and a few others would know about them. He was talking about Alf Ramsey, Europe and Eric Gates <laugh>

Anyway, he started on about seeing Sunderland v Wycombe and what incredible support we had. So I was rambling on about the NE and how I came to support Sunderland. It was partly due to my Uncle Mervyn who knew the Robsons at Langley Park.

So he starts saying how he got to know Bobby Robson!

Not through Ipswich, or his family, but because Bob used to go to Eton to coach their football team .... WTF!

Does anyone else know about this or is it common knowledge and I'm just unaware.

Played golf this morning with a lad who's grandfather played for the lads, J R Gibson, (Jock) in 1922 before moving to Hull Fc 1923.
He was a full back and was prevented from playing for Scotland due to being born in the USA.
Wouldn't happen under Jack Charltons watch.

Bruce Springsteen had the same problem.
