Wish I'd seen it. Ye they were, well the manager was, completely deluded.
But Christ they did have some good players then.

The banner saying "Easy" on it was hilarious. It really was something to behold, a Rod Stewart song and going on a victory lap at Hampden on the way to the airport. I remember laughing ad I listehed to disgruntlec Jocks singing "We want our money back...".Though it has to be remembered we didn't qualify in 1978. Or 1974. Neither did we qualify for the Euros in 1972 or 1976. Which rather undermines the theory everything was just fine and hunky dory until all those foreign players spoilt it all for the England team.

Deffo some quality in the team, but still the confidence versus the size of the task was jaw dropping.

Should be on iplayer

They had some good players in 1974 and cocked it up as well. Even better players in the 1960s but did nothing.
You wonder what has gone wrong with their football as every successful English team in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s had a backbone of Scottish players.

My dad used to bang on about the camera continually panning onto Macloud, who was invariaby sat with head in hands.

People talk about pre tournament English expectations/arrogance but I've never seen it as full-on as the Scots in 78 as evidenced on that docu

Especially if you compare them with other 'small' northern European nations, such as the rise of the Scando countries, Rep of Ireland or more recently Wales or Northern Ireland.

Yes, it was indeed something to behold. Which made what happened all the funnier.

My dad, who wasn't the type who revelled in the discomfort of others ordinarily, found it hilarious.

Man U 68 final one. Two with law.
77 Liverpool none.
 
That deluded Jock ****house McLoud actually sad it was by far the best squad to ever leave GB for a World Cup.

Like has been said previously, the arrogance of the sweaties was , literally, breath taking.

That Argy bird who married that bearded tit must have been off her tits though. Beauty and the Beast springs to mind.

Loads of Jocks playing for the top English teams in those days. Mackay, Bremner, Gray, Crerand, Law, Alan Gilzean, John Robertson, John White, Gordon McQueen, Archie Gemmill are just a few that spring to mind. Then there were players in Scotland like Jim Baxter, Jimmy Johnstone and others in tbe great Celtic side.
Makes you wonder why they could never construct a half decent national side.

Apparently a fair number of Jocks stayed there. For some unfathomable reason Argie lasses found them attractive.

In the early days of television the doyen of broadcasting was Richard Dimbleby. Hard for anyone not to have been around at the time to imagine the esteem with which he was regarded. BBC's first war correspondent, flew on over 20 bomber missions to send reports back, first broadcaster into Belsen. Anyway, there was a piece about Nigeria which featured a backdrop of the profile of the Nigerian leader superimposed over the River Niger. He was supposed to introduce it by saying " Meanwhile, in the land of The Niger...".
Unfortunately that wasn't what he inadvertantly said. Dread to think of the furore that would cause nowadays. In those more sensible days it was briefly mentioned in the papers , people realised it was a slip of tbe tongue and life went on.
