Fully agree mate, but it'll never happen. It's gone too far, the days of them being paid an apprentice wage and living in digs is from a bygone era.

There's teenage lads who haven't even had a sniff of first team action, who are pulling £5k a week plus in the PL at the minute.

We're never going to go back to the days of YTS footballers, but there is no reason why we can't also see some sensible processes implemented (well there are, but no good reasons). If every club was under the same rules of having some sort of process of life training and the idea of having a duty of care was taken seriously then it might improve things. It won't happen though because Premier League clubs won't want to miss out on young stars to Spain, Italy and Germany. However, we have a league that lots of young players want to play in. Fergie had the idea that if you want to play for Man United then this is the rules. It should be a case of 'If you want to play in the premier league....'

Johnson told the jury that he had texted the teenager from a hotel room, explaining that spending so much time in hotels can get boring and you need to "keep yourself busy".

"I spent a lot of time in hotels, it's easy to get carried away", he said. "I was in a hotel room and I was bored. I know I shouldn't have been doing that."

He said his messages to the teenager were "flirty" and "inappropriate".

Johnson said that while he was texting the teenage girl saying "you owe me" for signing a Sunderland shirt, his girlfriend was in bed.

Asked how he now feels now about the messages he sent her, he mumbled "embarrassed" adding "should not have ever done them".

Speaking about the teenager, he said he was "attracted to her".

The jury was read out a series of messages exchanged between Johnson and the teenager, in which they discussed their next meeting and he asked her "am I only getting a kiss?"

She replied: "Depends on what else you're after" and he then said "I dunno, it depends what you are up for.. a little bit more than a kiss".

The teenager wrote: "Like?" And he said: "A bit of feeling. Just see. No pressure. Lol", adding: "Keep deleting our convos".

Asked what he meant by "a bit of feeling", Johnson told the court that this was "stupidity from me", adding: "I really regret writing that".

Asked whether he thought there was a possibility of touching the teenage girl sexually at their next meeting, he said: "Yeah, there was a possibility".

Asked if wanted this to happen, he replied "Yeah".

He said he thought their meeting would last 10 to 15 minutes, adding: "I never thought the kiss was going to happen."

Johnson said that he did not know the teenager was taking a video while they were sitting in his car during their second meeting.

"I knew she had a phone, but I didn't know [she was filming]," he said

He said that during the meeting, they were talking for "almost all of the time" about football. He said the atmosphere was "similar" to how it had been in their first meeting when he gave her a signed shirt.

Asked if he wanted to kiss the teenager, he said "yes". Asked if he enjoyed kissing her, he replied "yes".

Explaining where his hands were during the kiss, he told the jury "they were just sort of resting sort of on her" which was in order "to give me stability when I was leaning over to kiss her".

Johnson described what he was thinking while he and the teenager kissed. "I had all sorts of things going on in my head," he said.

He said he was worrying that they were in "quite a populated area" and that someone would see. He said he "wasn't thinking clearly".

The footballer said he did not turn the car around at any point, adding that "it would have been a better idea to do that when I was kissing her".

Afterwards, when he was at the stadium, he texted her saying: "haha think we need to go in the back next time", the court heard.

The trial of Adam Johnson has now adjourned for the day - but it is not the footballer's last day in the witness stand.

His defence barrister will complete the questioning of his client tomorrow morning, before Johnson's cross-examination by the prosecution.

Court starts again tomorrow at 10.30am - join us then for the latest updates

The prosecution have got nothing on him. Just Johnson saying he would have been prepared to take things further, which would fall under the grooming category, which he has already admitted anyway.

Regardless of what actually happened, the defence have been very clever in getting him to openly admit to everything that goes up to the line of the unadmitted charges without going over the line, and also appearing remorseful. It's still possible that is the truth of course.

There's stuff in there which does make it look like the kissing is as far as it went, so I'd agree with all of that. Apart from the remorseful bit, he's only looking remorseful because he's been caught.

Edit: Just seen you did say 'appearing remorseful'

I just think personally the lad is as thick as thick does, his penis and ego are his world and will beyond this be his demise, we will no doubt hear about him in 10/20 years time living in the bin and the PFA will be there dragging the useless piece of **** out of the gutter, making statements like, we look after our ex-professionals and how shocked we all are, now who's turn is it to pour the wine..

I personally just feel sorry for the child, this dickhead spawned, don't give a **** about his woman, she will get her cash for the awful outfits, the child though has to go to school one day..

What a bag of **** and an insult this creep is to young men in this day and age and more so that he's a NE lad..

The more I listen to the evidence the more I'm coming to feel this...This young lass has undoubtedly been the victim of a predator and this case will have a profound affect on the rest of her life..

It's a terrible case. Not just her life he's ruined, it's his own (fault), her family and friends. His family could never look at him the same way ever again. Dreadful.

Totally agree..<ok>

15 year old lasses are 80% daft, love one direction and everyone in soap land or the papers or football are a iconic dream, he knew that but in all honesty his ego is his life for the moment and that ego is in his trousers. If his lass does stick with him after this then it will prove just how football, them that govern, them that play it and in the case of the Portuguese 'MAN' manage it, has sank to the depths.

The reason for Portuguese man is that the press call the tosser the Portuguese, he ain't the ****ing nation, he's just one toss pot out of there..<ok>

The lad is a proven liar already. I cannot trust anything he says on this case. I am pretty sure Sunderland knew nothing about this.

Does anyone have any idea when it's due to finish?

I know they're opened ended, but they usually have some idea how long these case go on for.

Will be this week sometime, his own barrister has just finished questioning him and now it's the turn of the prosecution to ask him their questions. Then it depends on if the defence will be calling any other witnesses, then it's over to closing statements etc.
