The England footballer Adam Johnson “abused his revered position in society” when he sexually touched a 15-year-old schoolgirl in his car after giving her a signed football shirt, a court has heard.
The midfielder, 28, knew the girl had only just turned 15 when he arranged to meet her behind a Chinese takeaway in County Durham last January, jurors were told on Friday.
Kate Blackwell QC, prosecuting, said Johnson showed “excessive arrogance” after sexually touching the teenager, a devout Sunderland fan who “idolised” the star.
The girl, who cannot be named, regularly waited outside the club’s stadium for a picture with Johnson and wore his name on her shirt, the court heard.
The footballer has admitted one count of grooming and one count of sexual activity with a child but denies two further sexual offence allegations.
The £60,000-a-week midfielder, capped 12 times for England, was sacked on Thursday night by Sunderland AFC and dropped by his sponsor Adidas after admitting two child sexual assault charges.
On the first day of his trial at Bradford crown court, jurors were told that Johnson arranged to meet the schoolgirl in his black Range Rover behind Happy Valley takeaway to engage in sexual activity weeks after they became friends on Facebook.
Blackwell said: “What has brought the defendant to this courtroom is a sexual desire for [the complainant], an excessive arrogance and an unwarranted level of expectation.
“He has abused his revered position in society and, having met this 15-year-old girl at Sunderland Football Club and on social media, and knowing that she looked up to him, made a conscious decision to act in a way that he knew was both morally and legally wrong.”

Even that is wrong though. Or are gay's mentally ill, the mear surgegstion people could be mentally ill because of their sexuality is astonishing imo. After all, who you find attractive holds know consideration for man made laws. I know you're just a messenger here, but even the way you worded it is wrong imo.

We are all affected by mental distortions in one form or another, however someone who ****s babies I would suggest can be correctly classified as mentally ill. You would say it's "sick" to be compelled to act in that manner and I'd agree. To have that kind of perversion is genuinely unnatural, whereas things like homosexuality have more frequent counterparts in nature.

I do think grooming and shagging a 15 year old is a bit more psychopathic, evil even, as it shows deliberate diversion from known rules and actual pursuit. But that's my opinion.

Varies case to case. I agree that there are unfair constructs derived from our obsession with "mental health" and deviations from it, but for the sake of simplicity, it's unnecessary to qualify every use of the term "mental illness".

"Mentally ill" is just another man made construct as well though. What fits in, what doesn't. What gives people the right to label someone as mentally ill really? For example... A bloke on the street who doesn't really want to be alive, doesn't like his life, doesn't see it as worth living. In that situation we'd say he's mentally ill or going through mental health issues when you could just as easily say him not wanting to live is just common sense and him looking for a simple solution to a nasty problem. Our society loves to put a label on something it doesn't fully understand.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone. It's just semantics. I don't think he meant any harm by his comment though.

Just goes to show how ignorant society is when we get thrown in with the nonces like. It's like people don't realise people with mental illness unless they've lost their mind actually know the difference between right and wrong and the decisions we make are generally down character not illness. Anyway, we're digressing. :)

No.

I've suspected his guilt since the grooming charge. It's been hard not to jump to conclusions given that as a character, aside from this court case, he was already known in this city to be an absolute dickhead.

I'm glad he never got anonymity for the last few months either, ****ing pig deserved every chant he got at grounds around this country.

Me too, though I didn't really come on here spouting it just to wait and see what happened, but so far the trials showing exactly how I might of expected t play out. Sickening.

The prosecution’s Kate Blackwell QC said after the encounter he messaged the teenager: “That wasn’t too bad was it?”

“Think we better go in the back next time?”

Johnson added. “Just wanted to get your jeans off though.”

Johnson: “I will last 10 seconds though.”

Girl: “Why’s that?”

Johnson replied: “Because it would be too good.”

Girl: “Was your thank you worth it?”

Johnson replied: “Yea might need another one.”
