If Man U or some other big club spends their way into a hole, the FA will help them out, maybe even the government.

If Saints spend their way into a hole, no one will do a thing.

That is why we have to keep a tighter rein in spending. Just one of many ways the game is rigged.

Except the Scottish FA didn't help Rangers out. Quite the opposite in fact.

Can't see the FA or Government helping ManU if you mean in a financial sense. I could see the FA bending some rules that they would enforce with an iron fist on some little team...but if ManU went to the wall, the debt would be too massive to assist with as they are carrying debt now (like most clubs).

But what is it being spent on now? The Academy has its nice buildings - but by all accounts the coaching isn't bringing in worldbeaters from across the country. We were told (by no less than Beefy) that the club were going to buy in talented youngsters to beef it up - but we bought none. The stadium isn't getting any bigger - or any better. In fact, the only thing I can see which the club is expanding into is Beefy's new luxury burgers.

It would be nice to hear where the money is going, that's all. Maybe it is going on setting up soccer schools around the world? That would be cool. Or maybe its all going in the bank as a safety net in case we hit hard times. Yawn.

Worldbeaters? Setting the bar kinda high there!

A lot of our new intake this year were new signings to the club to beef up the intake.

The Markus Liebherr academy is not yet finished. They're still completing the facilities for the youth teams
We have bought three or four players that I know of for the academy. That lad from Dundee Utd & another from Rapid Vienna got a bit of press coverage.
We're setting up those football academies in america with under armour.

I think an assumption has been made that because we didn't spend, that we don't have the money or it's going towards debts. It could just be that we couldn't get the players we wanted and we've had to keep our powder dry until January or next summer.
Also if we do look towards expanding the stadium then that will take a sizeable capital investment and several years of careful financial planning.

Another international break, another player interview starting to do the rounds on social media. This time again with Jose. Quotes on Jose saying the following:

José Fonte: "Was I disappointed ManUtd move didn't happen? Let's leave that for another time." Guess that means yes.

His instagram feed is still all about Portugal, not a sniff about Saints. Time for him to knuckle down and get excited about leading this great team of ours out of the San Siro.

If true, he needs to stop airing his laundry in public. Going to lose a lot of Saints fans if he continues on in this way. Would be a real shame.

If true I would be tempted to drop him.

The FA will always bend the rules for teams like Man U , I remember when Swindon won promotion to the prem.......the FA relegated them for financial/transfer irregularities.........Man u and Spurs done pretty much the same and both only got fines.

If Gardos gets back to full fitness and impresses in training I can honestly see that happening.
Tbf Yoshida is better then the Fonte we have atm. As I said after the Sunderland game, the guy seems like he is just going through the motions. Fonte use to go on about Southampton a hell of a lot.

I don't think you understood what I am getting at. Kat wants the club to be able to run without her pumping money in. She has in the past had to put money in ( has to be around £100m at least) as Cortese went a bit mad.

Unlike 99% of Prem teams who have a owner who will wipe out the clubs debt every few years. We will not have such debts, so won't need £100's of millions pumped in to wipe out the debt.

It's obvious that the owner of a football club will have to invest money in it. thay goes for the owner of any business. If the owner is not prepared to do this then that business will fail. with the tv money as it is and the way we buy and sell players if we are not self sufficient then then we never will be.

I hate to say it but against Sunderland it looked as if he was trying his best to give them a penalty. Succeeded on his third attempt. I hope I'm wrong.
I think it was more likely that he just had no answer to Defoe's speed around the box, just as he had no way of stopping Zlatan heading the ball the week before. He seems to be a spent force at the moment, and needs to recharge himself.

If as has been said that Fonte will not sign the improved contract he could well be that Saints will have told him he cannot go as they did not have a replacement nor time to get one. As he had signed a recent contract they would not have been looking for a replacement. That may indeed change for the next window or more likely next summer.

As I've said before can't really blame Jose for being disappointed/annoyed. This was most likely his only chance to play for one of the worlds biggest clubs and he didn't get the move. It is going to take awhile for him to get over it I think, and it is something I think he will look back on when he i retired with a huge amount of regret.

We have no idea if we are yet. The debts are from the Cortese era and the fact the training ground cost more then first thought.
