The absolute joy here is that I trust RH to build and mould a (managable) squad more than our last few managers. Probably since Poch. Think board will back him and move the players who need moving.

Not sure the players we want/need will come cheap though. Everyone wants a striker, a ball playing centre half or two etc

I trust Ralph completely. He has earned that trust too in a short time.

He came in we were in the bottom 3, we thought great, we have a new manager and a transfer window coming up to strengthen. Guess what? We got rid of a load of players (loans or whatever), didn't bring anyone in and he turned our fortunes around with what was left.

The man is a genius.

You are going to be surprised. It isn't about getting the max cash. Ralph and the board want the players gone and wages off the books
Absolutely. Unwanted players take up time and energy as well as money. Some fans do have an obsession about selling at a profit...perhaps because we usually do :), but sometimes you have to admit to mistakes and do the best for everyone concerned.

I agree....we have been very lucky to get Ralph (nod of thanks to the board for that)...as long as we remember no one is perfect and give Hasenhuttl a get out of jail free card if he sometimes can't walk on water. :)

Hasenhuttl did a presentation of the players he would like to keep review or sell. Yosh and vestergaard were on the keep list along with Romeu. Lemina was on the list to move on - apparently he trains poorly/undertrains.
Lemina is talented, but I thought he'd been out too long with injuries to judge....but perhaps Ralph has seen enough.

I find RH and his ideas very interesting. Not collecting a team of good players and trying to make them gel, but having an idea of the type of player he wants....and although talent is involved, he also looks at character, especially the willingness to adapt and work hard. He's not a man for the obvious. This suits us as we are unlikely to be able to buy big star players....especially at a time when we are trying to sort out the squad and have relatively little cash.

The decay started during Puel’s reign but accelerated afterwards.
Although the managers certainly didn’t help, the continued selling of our best players added to the problem but for me the biggest issue was the appalling recruitment trying to replace them.
This is what this summers clear out is going to try and rectify to free up financial capacity to bring in players that hopefully will deliver

The trouble is that recruitment is always a gamble, at least at the level we can afford to operate

I have heard he wants two ball playing cbs, with Bednerak and one of Yosh or Vester

I am totally down with this. We’ve made our bed now it’s time to pay the price. Some of them should probably just be released if they can’t be sold. Time to start over.

Quite - it's not as if we are poor, as a club. From memory we were again in the top 40 in the world by the latest measure, ahead of clubs like Ajax, AC Milan, Sevilla and West Ham.

We now have a good manager who wants to work with a smaller but better squad. Looking at them all in isolation as profits/losses is the wrong way to go about it. Get what we can for them, work to keep the ones we want long term and re invest in the squad hopefully with more success than over the past couple of season.

With youngsters, by default, likely to play a much greater role as the squad size reduces, I'm really excited for this summer and the season that will follow.

P.S. I've just bought a load of Football Index shares in Boufal against my better judgement. Anyone else think there's a chance he comes good under RH? he's so cheap!!!
