Just because they barely missed a game doesn't mean it served us fine! Just take a look at our GD and goals scored.... If we don't make the playoffs, the lack of goals will be the over riding reason. It was a issue before Jan and it wasn't addressed or sorted in the Jan window.
Clearly we don't score enough goals. But your issue was the quantity of strikers. If we'd had more strikers then like we do now they'd just have been filling out the bench. There's probably various reasons for our lack of goals, but a lack of available strikers in the first half of the season can't be blamed. We actually played Delap on the wing for a lot of that period because we had more of a shortage in that position.
I'm pretty sure I said it wasn't addressed by bringing in actual quality in Jan but fair enough, let's look at it the other way....So we've spent a large part of the first half of the season playing our best striker on the wing ( as you rightly pointed out ) and a fair chunk of the second half of the season playing no striker at all..... Maybe it's not the number of strikers at fault for our lack of goals then? Maybe it's the system? Maybe it's the manager? Maybe it's the lack of quality in our signings? It's a massive issue, it's been a massive issue all season if not longer, it shows no signs so far of being delt with and it's starting to look more then likely it'll be the reason we miss out ( if we do ) on the play offs.
Just been looking at Coventrys spend this season... they sold Gyorkares and Hamer (bet he wished he'd stayed) for a combined 38 million and change but spent all of it. When you look at out actual spend we have, despite all the loans been very frugal. Transfer market shows our gross spend at 7 million and thats without Oscar.. Coverntrys big spends.. SIMS and WRIGHT.
Yes and if we do end up selling Greaves and Jaden this summer we’ll also have this sort of money to spend.
Don't. Please don't!!! Nearly posted it a few times in reaction to other's comments about our striking options (transfer decisions, playing v's no playing, etc), but can't stop my fingers typing this time .... what a complete and utter **** up!!! And that's not hindsight - first in letting him go, then in not signing adequate replacements, then thinking 38 y.o. Sharp and a young kid with next to no experience would see us through.
He's been injured half the season and this hat trick takes him to four goals for the season. Less than Delap, Connolly, Tufan and Jaden have scored for us, and the same as Carvalho who has been here 5 minutes. You're talking as if he's been banging them in every week. James Scott also scored a hat trick whilst out on loan once. Perhaps letting him out was a complete and utter **** up too. After all we were playing Eaves up front at the time.
Listened to it on Radio Norfolk. Stoke hit the post early doors, but overall played like Barton Town, no doubt when they come to ours on Easter Friday they'll play like BARCELONA.
James scott also wasn't our top scorer the season before we let him go and contributed absolutely nothing to the club, the complete opposite to oscar...... I may be wrong though. Other then that though it's an absolutely fantastic and accurate comparison
Well, if he's been injured half the season he can't have been banging them in every week. All the lads you mentioned there, including Oscar, seem to have been scoring at a rate of around 1 in every 3 or so games. Billy Sharp hasn't scored at all.
Comparing to James Scott!! Come on, you're better than that! That video reminds what Oscar is capable of given half decent service, which we now have. The irony. Given that we let him go (wrongly imo) we should at least have replaced sensibly. We didn't, compounded further when Delap got injured and we'd had even more evidence (as if it was even needed) that Connolly could not be relied upon; I don't see how anyone can seriously argue otherwise. We bring in 38 yo past it Sharp, and young inexperienced kid Ohio, and then use neither of them as intended! Joke.
You can only play against who you're up against. It's a bit like saying any of the Kane, LIneker, Shearer, etc goals should be discounted if they were scored against crap opposition. I'm not particularly in or out of the Oscar camp but I think he's getting unjustly slagged off today, just for scoring a hat-trick!
