Back then he seemed so young in the Dad's Army cast, and I guess so was I back then, but life has moved on and I'm 70 now. Looking forward to at least another good 20 years with the R's promoted back to the Premier League, or is that too much to hope for in 20 years?

Anyway I don't plan to use this spot, located behind our bungalow, for a while yet, all paid for though that my five daughters find a bit morbid. I told my new partner, Wendy, that I didn't want to be that lonely old man buried in the back corner of cemetery, near a secret gate that leads to our home,, so she agreed to "join" me, at least half of her ashes, the other half 30 mins away beside a.lake where her former husband is buried (with her maiden name on his grave marker). Now the only stipulation for a $700 grave plot, versus a $2,700 Columbarium "mail box", is that I have to be interred in a cheap pine box!

Now Wendy desperately wants to one day experience a trip to Loftus Road, with an R's win and pre and post match celebrations at the Crown & Sceptre and Coningham Arms (the true Irish R's way!)

This is quite common in jewish cemeteries (maybe others too, I’ve not been to many) where someone has bought a double grave and half is ‘occupied’. Always think it must be a bit awkward if the survivor meets someone new and changes their mind about being buried with the first one to go.

I like the fact that this Douglas Rural Cemetery is totally interdenominational and anyone from any religion can be buried there. Because it is located right behind our bungalow I get to see all the various "comings and goings" in the cemetery. After a few of our major stormed I had been volunteering my time to clean up broken tree branches and displaced grave marker momentos flowers, angels, Cardinals (that apparently appear when Angels are near!). On the Find a Grave website I also found a few grave entry requests for this cemetery and was able to locate, photograph and upload those pictures to the site. Now at Wendy's former husband's gravesite (he was brought up Pentecost but non practicing (as was Wendy, who was a hippy, ("love the one you are with", me now, dining room waitress and kitchen designer for her father's kitchen cabinet business, and non practicing Jew - much to her parents chagrin she never married that "nice" Jewish boy!) and her husband who died 10 years ago when he fell at work and banged the back of his head, is buried in the Baptist cemetery, with his other family members in a small community where he grew up. Now on his grave marker, Wendy is listed under her Jewish "Wolman" maiden name. As far as cremation ashes distribution, if Wendy passes before me, my issue could be getting her two children to allow me to have half of her ashes as they don't know about the 2nd burial site yet. As far as any potential awkwardness of us splitting up, and having Wendy's name on my grave marker, that is not going to happen since she is a "keeper" and we have now been living together for almost 7 years sharing our life and enjoying the same activities - travelling, swimming, biking, kayaking, fine dining, sharing TV shows (our first together was "Call the Midwife"). Now on her "bucket list" is trip to Loftus Road, for a winning match that we have to somehow make happen!

Bit of a surprise to hear of Steve Wrights passing at just 69. May not have been my #1 DJ choice but you had to laugh when listening to Steve and his posse in a show that either aimed to lift your spirits or to spread love on a Sunday. A true professional who drew massive respect from his colleagues. Thought he was treated a little shoddily by the Beeb, yet he handled it with grace and humility.
RIP Steve Wright. <rose><rose><rose>
Thank you

Loved by the West, but he was also a nasty bastard too...

Stripped of Prisoner of Conscience by Amnesty because of anti-immigration statements he'd made. He was a far right nationalist who was very much a "Russia is for Russians" politician. Putting himself in Putins crosshairs by daring to stand up to him was only going to end up one way though. Poisoned, and then imprisoned on flimsy, made up charges and shipped out to Siberia he didn't have much of a chance.

Racist or revolutionary: The complex legacy of Alexei Navalny

Controversy surrounds some of what the Russian opposition leader - currently imprisoned in Moscow - has said in the past.

Alexei Navalny is a many-sided man.

The 45-year-old is a lawyer turned blogger, YouTuber, protest organiser, anti-corruption activist and face of Russia's opposition.

He is currently in prison in Russia on charges of extremism, which supporters say are politically motivated.

I watched his film a few months back, a good insight into Russian politics

Russian politics are extreme. You won't find any Liberal Democrat's there. Socially, their society is 100 years behind the West imo. But Putin sacrifices the lives of Russian citizens for his benefit - Navalny sacrificed his life for Russian citizens

Remember seeing him on the County circuit in the 70's , a brutal batsman and a fine fast medium bowler who swung it like Beefy. Never got to see him in Tests because of the apartheid ban, a real shame. RIP Mike
