Oooh, that must've been grim Strolls. I don't think I've been to a game where this has happened. ( And I've been to a lot of games. ) I've had to do it a couple of times as a civvy and numerous times in the job. The safest place to have a cardiac event is at a football ground nowadays as defibs are ready to be deployed. If you can't survive that than for want of a better expression you was a gonna anyway. Stainsey probably knows better than me. But defibs are a game changer in todays times. I personally believe that CPR and Defib training should be part of the school curriculum.

Alright mate….just read this and yes, you are totally correct. The use of a Defib is literally a matter of life or death and we have it drilled into us that first priority in any arrest is to get the pads on, hit the analyse button and shock if necessary. If you can get the heart ‘reset’ quickly enough then the chances of survival are vastly improved.

And again with your comment on training kids in Defibs….I’ve always said the exact same. They are piss easy to use. Once you know how it’s giving the patient a massive chance in living

Agree on the training, but wouldn’t it need to be repeated pretty regularly, it’s not something that most of us will ever actually have to do, so practice is important, for the very slim chance that it’s needed.

I was trained when I did my FA coaching course, but the one time I’ve had to attempt CPR was about 15 years later, and I was talked through what to do by the 999 number responder, with the phone crushed to my ear by my shoulder, until the paramedics arrived. It didn’t work unfortunately in this case, and I didn’t think it would when I started, because the man was clearly dead and the attempt wasn’t started soon enough (I think it was you who told me that you have to be bloody quick to revive someone). But I was oddly pleased with myself that at least I tried, when there were people standing around staring at the poor bloke, including a couple who claimed to be his friends, doing nothing.

That must be almost 4 years ago (nearly) I remember you posting about it…and I hadn’t done one real one at that time.
Weird now to think how many I’ve done, sweated over and had my arse filmed by the public :)

Bamber Gascoigne dead at 87…..always used to seem a nice fella when interviewed in TV.
I watched University challenge when I was a kid thinking I might one day get a question right…..think I was about 21 when I finally succeeded
RIP Bamber…a posh person who I quite liked

I still watch University Challenge from time to time - score myself one point if I get a question right, and two points if I get it and none of the Uni geeks do!

Only Connect, that's a whole different ball-game of geeky nerdness, almost impossible to get a question right on that.

If only University Challenge was like this....

The original great University Challenge host, it still amazes me how the participants don't appear on the big money quiz shows. We used to play a game at the Fire Station that the last person to get a correct question right used to have to do the washing up after dinner. More often than not we had to all do it. We didn't understand half of the quiz questions let alone answer them.

It makes me laugh how the the host's scoffs at the silly answers offered by the colleges like 99% of us normal people could answer them. RIP Bamber
