So sad. I don't think pancreatic cancer is one that you ever get an all-clear on. I'm due to speak in two hours time to a good friend I was at school with. His 66 year old wife has bile duct cancer which is the same liver area as pancreatic. It was diagnosed a year ago, last week it was established she has a growth at the front of the brain.
Goldhawk - 3 years ago my sister was diagnosed with a cancerous growth (size of a grapefruit) attached to her liver. Due to its exact location, it was/is inoperable. Chemo did little or nothing. As a result, she was given drugs that were under trial across the World. They have kept her alive but, due to some of the side effects, her quality of life has not been great - but thankfully she is still here and welcomed her 5th grandchild just before Christmas. She will be 64 next month. The treatment under NHS England has been outstanding, and without wishing to be ‘political’, is far superior to the treatment that she would have had under NHS Wales.
Yes, it's the location of liver and bile duct cancer that is the problem and makes it inoperable. There was an article in The Times a week or so ago about an immunotherapy drug (so new, it's so far unnamed) that has killed the tumours in a bile duct cancer patient. I alerted my friend to it. The problem is, the treatment works with tumours haveing a high number of genetic mutations. Sadly, my friend's wife does not have these mutations so the treatment is not available to her. Good news about your sister, though, Taff, so long as the side effects of treatment are tolerable. I do hope it goes well for her.
Sorry to hear about your sister Taff, hope she manages to have some quality of life for whatever time she has left ! Fingers crossed its a good while yet.
Thanks Hammersmith She’s about to start taking some new trial drugs - hopefully, there will be fewer (hopefully no) nasty side effects. Here’s what one trial drug did to her mouth 18 months ago …. She looks far older than 62 as she was in this photo
I am really saddened to read of David’s passing. I had the immense privilege of meeting him at the 125th anniversary dinner of Neath RFC - an event that I organised. RIP David

I'm not a passionate rugby follower, but what a pleasure it was watching David in full flow. Rest in Peace David
Very interesting watching this, all the legendary names and yet like watching football from the 70’s how poor some of the play was, missed and dangerous tackling and how unfit the players looked, puffing and blowing after the first try.
I’m the good looking one …. …. and the youngest there! Standing next to Mr Duckham. The guy the other side is Norman Rees, who had one cap for Wales. Peter Hain in the front row
