Last night at the Barrowlands, a trip down memory lane with The B-52s, supported by The Rezillos.
We tried to get tickets for this when they went on general sale, but it sold out in under two minutes. Mrs SM had been keeping an eye on the resale sites, and managed to snap two up on Twickets for face value a couple of days ago.
I love Barrowlands, especially when it's full to the brim like it was last night, but it was ****in roasting! I'd been working up north, so was a bit later getting home, but got in to the venue in time to catch about 20 minutes of The Rezillos. We saw them last year at a festival and they were quite rusty, but were much better last night. I think Fay has been on the Monjaro though, she's lost a lot of weight! Eugene was his normal, weird geeky self and it was good to hear Top of the Pops and Ballroom Blitz.
A good DJ/video show with lots of colourful tunes from the 80s during the break, then on to the main act.
Opening with Planet Claire, it was a set full of hits. Early stuff like Dance This Mess Around interspersed with their 80s heydeys Roam and Topaz, then finished off with Love Shack and Rock Lobster. Great visuals, really bright and heavy on the neon. The band were tight, but I was really impressed with how good their voices were considering they are all in their 70s. Fred looks a bit shaky, maybe early onset of some form of Parkinsons by the looks of him shuffling around.
One lesson though - don't go to see your teenage crushes from 40 years ago expecting them to be as hot as they were back then! Cindy looks good for her age, but Kate Pearson looks like she's spent a lot of time with the plastic surgeon...
