Teeth 'n' Smiles at the Duke of York theatre. It's a reprise of a 50-year old David Hare play about a jaded late-60s rock band. I was looking forward to this, but I was sadly disappointed. The dialogue seemed so outdated that even I found it cringy. The saving grace, though, was Rebecca Lucy Taylor (aka Self Esteem) in the lead role. An excellent singer and a surprisingly good actress.

Again, though, just being out in central London charges the batteries. The greatest city in the World.

She"s got a great voice, and always comes across well when interviewed on tv or radio. Saw Self Esteem at TRNSMT festival a few years ago, she was very good.

I was out last night, at Glasgow School of Art seeing DEADLETTER, , dark and sweaty, 400 people, a very different experience to yours!

Yeah, I saw Self Esteem before when she opened for Blur at Wembley last year. She's excellent.

My daughter is with mates at the Primavera Festival in Barcelona, her third time I think.

She saw the Cure for a very long set last night and raved about them, 3 hours of dancing, tonight it’s Gorillaz.

I’m a bit jealous.

Yeah, sounds great but they've had some awful weather, a few sets were cancelled due to safety fears the rain was that bad!

My son was there too. He sent some videos. The XX were very good indeed as were The Cure (they always are) and numerous others. Also jealous.

Out last night to one of my favourite venues, the beautiful Kelvingrove Bandstand in the West End of Glasgow. Was a little worried as I'd been out working only a few miles from the venue, and been drenched several times by some wicked ninja showers...however, although it was grey and murky, the rain managed to hold off for the evening.

I missed the support, Man of Moon, as I'd been held up a bit. I have seen them before, so not the end of the world but would've been nice to catch some of their set. Anyway, prompltly at 9pm, main act - Peter Hook and the Light. For anyone not familiar, Hooky was the bass player in Joy Division and New Order and tours playing their songs. Last night was a 50th anniversary show - I wasn't old enough to see Joy Division, although I have seen New Order a few times. Show started off with some classic early Joy Division, but the sound seemed quite subdued and off tune...took the sound engineer about three tracks to get it sorted, just in time for She's Lost Control. Playing stuff like Transmission and Shadowplay defo hit the right notes with the crowd.

Hooky then dedicated a couple of tracks to Mani and Andy Rourke (RIP both) who he was in Freebass with, then went in to full on New Order mode. Finished off with Blue Monday, True Faith and, of course, Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Very good show - it's been about ten years since I last saw him, and this was a Christmas present from Mrs SM, had a great time (even the midges were enjoying it, covered in bites this morning!!)

Two bassists for Hooky?

We are going to see Hooky in Toronto August 27th (saw him in Montreal last year and really enjoyed a Joy Division/New Order trip down memory lane.

BBC repeating the Imagine programme from 2009 of then 70 year old David Hockney painting multiple vast canvases of Yorkshire countryside in the open air, talking all the time. Magical stuff, illuminating and funny.

I remember that. Wonderful.

I was also reminded of a programme I saw, probably from the late 80s, maybe a South Bank Show, where he was describing how he constructed one of his photo collages. It was a quite simple concept of a man descending a flight of stairs towards a pool (I think), but the brilliance was in how he was able to convey the movement of someone walking down stairs by means of still photos placed together in a collage. I was transfixed by the genius of it.

Found it, not quite as I remembered it, but every bit as brilliant....

There's a few on the Saltmarket heading up to Glasgow Cross- The Old Ship is always heaving when stuff on at Glasgow Green.

If you're coming in from Bridgeton, head along the Gallowgate towards the Barrowlands - BAD and 226 Gallowgate are good pubs around the Barras. Also St Lukes, converted church, plus a load of Celtic pubs in that area if you're desperate!

Want old school Scottish pub, the Scotia Bar and Clutha Vaults a bit further towards city centre.

Just be aware pal, we think you'll only be able to access the arena via the main entrance off the Saltmarket, but when you leave you'll be able to go out via the VIP/accessible entrance on the far side nearest Bridgeton Station.

Are you planning on staying on for the Scotland v Morocco game? They are showing it on the big screen once Ashcroft has finished his set. You'll need to get a taxi/Uber back to your hotel if you do, don't think the trains are running late.

Try and catch The Beta Band on the King Tuts stage, saw them late last year and it was a great show. If you get time, go and see Soapbox, my sons band supported them a couple of years ago. I've also got some intel on a secret show by a big Scottish band not on the setlist, but need to find out what day they are playing before I tell you more!

Just hope the weather stays good for you - glorious today, but last two weeks have been pretty dreich.
