I really don’t know to be honest. A lot of the sound that makes the Alabama 3 will be lost for sure, but I reckon they will be strong enough to get through it without him and make a fitting tribute to his legacy.
I listened to the album while waiting for the kids last week and ‘Peace in the Valley’ had me blubbing like a baby....went straight on to my funeral song list......along with Placebo, Running up that hill and Nine Inch Nails, Hurt........you are all invited...should be a good do :)
you paying for the travel

I saw a BBC4 thing in the week which said the biggest crowd ever at the Pyramid stage was in 1994 for The Levellers, an estimated 300,000.

Proper.

Just started watching a programme called ‘Lost in Vagueness’ that shows a bit of the Levellers gig from about that time....main thing I noticed was the difference in the demographic of the crowd......poles apart from what it’s now become.

Isn’t it strange how Stormzy, who I actually quite like, got all the plaudits from the press and politicians for his Friday night headline set, and these guys will get **** all praise from the self same press ‘cos they aren’t ‘cool’ anymore.
Glad there are a lot of proper music lovers on this board.

Not a mention of The Cure on BBC1 this morning, it's all about Kylie :headbang:

Napoli is a brilliant, but utterly tragic place. If I had Sky I would watch this, but I have read the original book, which is terrifying and sad in equal measure.

The fresh feel of the first series of Killing Eve has now turned stale, just more of the same and quite boring now, given up on it.

Not sure it was good in the first place imo

Very positive review and pic in the Times for The Cure. But also very positive on Kylie, particularly her duet with the sainted Nick Cave, which I thought was poor, mainly as she has a weak voice but also because the sound was dreadful. And I am predisposed to like anything involving Cave. The sound on the Cure set was way better than anything else I heard, probably because they are proper experienced musicians and knew how to set it up.

Good on The Times!!

They just played that Cave/Kylie duet on Radio 6.....his gravelly voice is superb.

They must have remastered it. The Bad Seeds rendition of Stagger Lee at Glastonbury is a spine tingling moment. It’s on YouTube, I won’t post on here, don’t want to clutter up this excellent thread.

Have you heard Johnny Cash’s take on Hurt? It’s like he’s opened up his soul (a concept I don’t really believe in, but can’t find another way to express it). In his latter years Cash covered some indie tracks quite stunningly. His version of Nick Cave’s The Mercy Seat is also unbelievable. Nick Cave said ‘once Johnny Cash has covered something, it’s his song’.

The exchanges on this thread last night summed up what is great about this board, a bunch of geezers sharing their passion for something they love. Cheers lads.

I started a thread about funeral songs a while ago. Might have to update mine.

Yes mate, it’s JC’s version I heard first....the video was amazing as well.
Trent Reznor of NIne Inch Nails said, after he heard Cash’s version of Hurt, that the song now belongs to him.
I’m still not too sure as the original version has more raw emotion for me.
Agree about the board last night, had a real ‘feel good’ vibe about it.

I've watched seven episodes out of eight in series one and I am feeling it's a bit overrated.
It's almost a spoof. Are we meant to take it serious?

Different writer 2nd series.
Not as good, although I still enjoyed it.
Both leading ladies exceptionally good imo.
I think it's meant to be a dark comedy.

Fascinating documentary on BBC4 last night about Frank Lloyd Wright, the American architect. He had a rather 'colourful' private life, but his designs were stunning. Well worth a watch on catch-up despite the presenter, who was a bit dry.

Just watched ‘Anna-The woman who went to fight ISIS.
It’s the story of Anna Campbell, an anti fascist, hunt sab who travelled over to Syria to join the Kurdish YPJ, eventually being killed by Turkish forces while on a mission.
Also shows the moving and emotional journey taken by her father to try to make some sense of the death of his daughter. Well worth watching, if only to try to get some idea how ****ed up the conflict over there was.
A brave young woman who lived and died by her principles.

It's too far back in this thread to go looking for the original posts, but we just watched the final episode of Good Omens (no bingeing for me). Thoroughly enjoyable and wonderfully British, with deliciously over the top performances from Michael Sheen and David Tennant (and a special mention for Miranda Richardson), I loved it.
