it great that so many youngsters are getting to see such an iconic band that you cannot really stick a label on or pigeon hole.

I was talking to my mates brother who was at the second ever IOW festival where 700,000 hippies turned up, fought the police and where Jimi Hendrix played his last ever gig (along with The Doors, The Who and other legends of music).
I was in awe and wanted to know what it was like to be at a festival that truly went down in history......turns out he could remember **** all about it ‘cos he was off his face on acid for the whole week.....:)

Seen the Cure many times, always note perfect and often long sets. I think they make a great headline act. For me, far better than Neil Young, Brian Wilson or the infernal grunting and growling of Springsteen. As for Stormzy, I’m fifty and am just about able to relate to De La Soul and Grandmaster Flash. All the Rap / Grime thereafter to me, seems to be totally devoid of musicality and much talent. Must be an age thing. My father said the same of my music taste as a teenager.

I was at my Nan’s house in Bognor when it was on. I’d swear you could hear it.
This is the best ever song to be driving late at night to.

Anybody else think Shake Dog Shake is a slowed down Motörhead track?

    I miss Lemmy.

Neil Young’s endless version of Rockin in the Free World is about my favourite Glastonbury moment though.

Might be eclipsed by the Cure tonight. This is awesome, a word I reserve for genuinely awesome things, rather than a pair of trainers.

Hadn’t occurred to me to be honest.
Another great performance I saw by Motörhead at Guilfest.....looking back, I’ve had a privileged ‘gig’ history.

  13. Saw them at Hyde Park last year. They were beyond immense and they are tonight. Always said they were seriously underrated so glad they're getting a real showcase tonight.

Just out this on the music thread
Michael Hann is a guardian music journalist blogging Glastonbury. He’s giving each Cure song a QPR rating. ‘Forest’ is Adel Taarabt apparently. We’ve also had Shaun Derry, Devon White and Bradley Allen...

Isn’t it strange how Stormzy, who I actually quite like, got all the plaudits from the press and politicians for his Friday night headline set, and these guys will get **** all praise from the self same press ‘cos they aren’t ‘cool’ anymore.
Glad there are a lot of proper music lovers on this board.

I've seen them many times. They regularly supported siouxsie before they got big. It was a real win win those nights.

I saw a BBC4 thing in the week which said the biggest crowd ever at the Pyramid stage was in 1994 for The Levellers, an estimated 300,000.

    Proper.

Great to be amongst such music aficionados tonight. Saw Siouxsie and the Banshees 24 years ago at The Shepherds Bush Empire....I know it was then ‘cos we had to sit down as my ex mrs was heavily pregnant with my first born.

Another great live band and the year the travellers rioted to get in I think.
That programme was the one that got me talking about the IOW festival to my mates brother
