Give us a clue Strolls, it’s a long programme for someone with a short attention span like me. I was on the picket line (nowhere near the action) on 22 June 1977, the big day. Just finished my O levels. Not sure if I really understood what was going on. Didn’t end too well for workers solidarity, but I think quite important to see white men protesting for the rights of immigrant Asian women, might have been a first.
Very impressed that you were there, I never joined. My now wife (I wasn't going out with her until after the strike) appears very briefly at about 6.44 mins in the programme. She was a sales rep, so nothing really to do with the strikers, but had to drive through the picket line sometimes to get to the office. Yes, a scab. George Ward was an utter ****. I met him a couple of times when I was made to go to Christmas dos. I like to think I conveyed my contempt.
Im gonna try to sit down and watch this in the next couple of days…..looks an interesting story that I don’t know much about, as it was a bit before my time
As it’s my week off, until Friday at least, trying to catch up on recordings. Just saw the first episode of “Our World War” on IPlayer, which I think was made a few years ago but it’s brutally good and genuinely emotional. First episode tells the story of some soldiers taking part in the Battle of Mons at the start of WW1. Dramatised from their own words and goes in someway to show the heroic actions of some of the young soldiers taking part. Very poignant to hear the words, spoken later in 1954, of Private Sid Godley, who was shot in the head and had bullet lodged in his skull while defending a bridge and was awarded the Victoria Cross. I know for sure I couldn’t be that brave NB. Just started episode 2 which deals with the “PALS Battalions”, which I had heard of and knew of their existence……
Just moved house to Stratford on Avon. In my new local, The Old Tramway. Excellent boozer, £4.30 for a very good pint of Guinness. Major result, I’m going to like it here.
I've always wanted to see it, but never have. I'll get my son the case. The new film by Martin McDonagh, The Banshees of Inisherin, is getting rave reviews and winning awards. That sounds like a must-see too.
Not sure if this started because of the Banshees if Inisherin if not this film is made by the same people and very “darkly” funny worth a watch. The other film I’ve seen recently that carries on this “dark humour theme” is “the menu”, brilliant
It's very good, but not in the same league as In Bruges imo. It will win something at the Oscars though !
My son has seen The Banshees. Very good, dark humour, but not a patch on In Bruges according to him. The McDonagh film that won big was Three Billboards, which was brilliantly acted, but left me pretty cold.

My wife gave me this Horace Panter cassette art for my birthday today The perfect song, every time I look at it I will hear “Hello, my name’s Terry and I’m going to enjoy myself first” and remember the great man.
Here in Florida my partner and myself recently saw the new Tom Hanks movie, "A man called Otto" which we both really enjoyed. Wonderful film based on "A man called Ove" book/film. Highly recommend, tickets only $6.50 for seniors at the huge, multi screen, deserted Boynton Beach theatre, where you choose your seat placement when you purchase your tickets (only $5.00 on Tues cheap night!). Stadium seating very comfortable seats or chairs should I perhaps say. Even a bar in the Cinemark theatre, until 5 mins before movie start we were the only people in the theatre, maybe 15 in total at start. Next up on Tues is "The Whale" which a woman and her grand daughter attending this film highly rated.
