RIP Joao Gilberto, the Brazilian who invented Bossa Nova. The original Girl from Ipinema, who inspired the famous song, was part of the opening ceremony at the Rio Games, which Gilberto must have loved.

RIP John McCririck.

One of my personal heroes. An outstanding journalist & broadcaster and more importantly a huge supporter of animal charities. Treated despicably by C4.

RIP John <rose>

He was certainly a larger than life character.

RIP Bury Football Club <rose>

Like many football fans, I’m both sad & livid.

Fond memories of Gigg Lane and of Bury...they are so close in proximity to two billion pound football clubs, and this sort of thing really should never be allowed to happen.

The blame lies squarely with the prick Steve Dale, and with a useless and spineless eunuch of a “regulatory authority” <laugh><laugh> that allows anyone with a tenner to buy a much loved community asset.

I am so sad and angry to see what has happened at Bury. This is on the day that Alexis Sanchez has moved to Inter Milan on loan. Both Clubs are splitting his £500000 per week salary.
This is a Bury fans thoughts on how she feels.

And the previous owner property developer Stewart Day who, as
@david_conn
reported, “borrowed money secured on Gigg Lane at 10% interest a month, which compounded into 138% annual interest” but “continued building his flats, loading borrowings on to Bury, until it all collapsed.”

RIP Daniel Johnston <rose>

I was genuinely sad when I read about his death today, although perhaps not surprised. And only 58 years old.

Anyone who hasn’t listened to his unique music should give it a try.

He even wrote a classic song about @Beware of the Virus once :emoticon-0138-think

RIP Lord Bramall.

He was a great man. Served in every active conflict from the D Day landings to the Falklands. Went on to become Chief of the Defence Staff.

In his final years he was monstrously libelled by that fat, odious bucket of sh1t Tom Watson MP. Unlike Leon Britain, at least he was cleared of Watson’s lies before his death.

RIP sir <rose>
