That's fair enough, it was Hammond's sad attempt to portray it as a positive thing that I objected to.
Dipper (sorry). You had some valid points and i agree it is a shame when a leading company like Arm sells to someone else. Although to be fair i had not heard of them before today but believe from the news that used to be Acorn, which i have heard of. I listened to Hermann Hauser's comments and yes it's a bit nostalgic but as others have said, it's a good deal.
We were told that we wouldn’t get overseas investment but we have. Confirmed on the news. The largest ever Asian investment £24b. Investment is Investment.
Even tonight Eileen Burbridge said "It's a success" she went on to say "it's a credit to the British, to grow a company to £24b". Lot's of people have made money and many have worked at Arm for a number of years and maybe it's time for them to venture on their own". "The people who did well from the sale will recycle the money for starting up their own companies and maybe from this a 1000 more flowers will bloom".
Does that answer your question or will you be like some of the other muppets and disregard it claiming it's flawed? The thing i like about her words was that she was so optimistic and not 'Doom and gloom".

That, I suspect, is the long and the short of it. Just business. Presumably British companies are out there doing the same sort of thing in other countries.
What we might see more of, if Hammond continues with Osborne's plan to cut corporation tax (already half that of the US) and if £ stays cheap is less benign takeovers by foreign companies which then pretend to move their HQs here in order to pay less tax on their global profits. This is what Pfizer were trying to do, at least partially, with their bid for Astra Zeneca.

I'm a nervous wreck mate. I'm very worried that we might play a blinder against Leeds, and then I'll have to go much more often than I'm planning to next season.
