Oh no! Johnson, Davis and 'Dr' Fox have to share the traditional Foreign Secretary country residence! High jinks in the dorm chaps! Actually a bit worried about this. Boris is used to this all homoerotic private school camaraderie, he'll be ready with the wet towels and bursting to wedgie his mates. But Davis and Fox are council house lads, they'll probably bottle him as soon as he looms up in the twilight yelling 'what ho, who's up for a midnight feast? I got Matron to buy me some cider!'

Weird scenes inside the goldmine.

Dunno. Businesses get bought and sold all the time. Them wot own the shares are free to sell them if the price offered is sufficiently attractive. Who's to say they weren't lining up a bid anyway, but the FX rate made it irresistible?
That's fair enough, it was Hammond's sad attempt to portray it as a positive thing that I objected to.

Not me. I accept Brexit will happen and I want it to be as good as it possibly can be. My views on ARM have nothing to do with Brexit. I would have said the same if the referendum result had been "Remain" or if we'd never had the referendum. A great UK tech company that currently controls its own destiny will have its bosses outside the UK from now on. I know what this could mean in the medium to longer term, based on my experience of other UK tech companies being bought by foreign competitors for their know-how. It's where I spent 35 years of my working life.

Who were you listening to, Ellers, when you heard an expert say the complete opposite earlier today? I'm open to learning new things and changing my mind, you know.

I repeat - this is not about Brexit, just about a foreign company buying ARM and what might happen next.

Dipper (sorry). You had some valid points and i agree it is a shame when a leading company like Arm sells to someone else. Although to be fair i had not heard of them before today but believe from the news that used to be Acorn, which i have heard of. I listened to Hermann Hauser's comments and yes it's a bit nostalgic but as others have said, it's a good deal.

We were told that we wouldn’t get overseas investment but we have. Confirmed on the news. The largest ever Asian investment £24b. Investment is Investment.

Even tonight Eileen Burbridge said "It's a success" she went on to say "it's a credit to the British, to grow a company to £24b". Lot's of people have made money and many have worked at Arm for a number of years and maybe it's time for them to venture on their own". "The people who did well from the sale will recycle the money for starting up their own companies and maybe from this a 1000 more flowers will bloom".

Does that answer your question or will you be like some of the other muppets and disregard it claiming it's flawed? The thing i like about her words was that she was so optimistic and not 'Doom and gloom".

That, I suspect, is the long and the short of it. Just business. Presumably British companies are out there doing the same sort of thing in other countries.

What we might see more of, if Hammond continues with Osborne's plan to cut corporation tax (already half that of the US) and if £ stays cheap is less benign takeovers by foreign companies which then pretend to move their HQs here in order to pay less tax on their global profits. This is what Pfizer were trying to do, at least partially, with their bid for Astra Zeneca.

Stroller's dog must be a hippo if the QPR branded dog collar I gave him fits. Too big for 3 of my dog.

Do you think Eileen Burbridge, the American venture capitalist, was consciously plagiarising Mao Tse Tung with her '1,000 flowers' stuff?

A crazed axeman has attacked passengers on a train in Wuerzburg, Germany. Fifteen people critically injured. Sky news reporting it as a possible terrorist attack. I've heard that it's a right wing extremist.

Let's face it, most things worry you.

Bad news mate. too many of these nutters going around now. The Media don't help by giving these freaks so much air time. Germany like France is a fab country.

I've only been to Germany once and had a fabulous time.

I'm a nervous wreck mate. I'm very worried that we might play a blinder against Leeds, and then I'll have to go much more often than I'm planning to next season. Though Roller assures me that this is not going to happen. I'm not so sure as I couldn't get a seat next to him and Beth, which is usually the kiss of death.

Wrong thread I know.

Oh please pack it in Chaz & Col. It's getting a bit tedious lads. Cheers.
I've not done or said anything unless provoked. Feel free to check the point where col laid into me without a second thought (post 5465)
