I’m pretty sure that if these family farmers employed a decent tax lawyer and put their farms into land trusts they would avoid inheritance tax completely. A little bit of CGT perhaps on the initial placement of the land into trust.The likes of Dyson and Clarkson had bought farm land specifically to avoid inheritance tax. Despite Clarkson's cuddly TV programme, I don't imagine he actually spends that much time on his farm, and I'd be surprised if his children would want to take it on. It's just 'tax planning' and Clarkson is now whining about this particular loophole being partially closed.
Still, Nick Griffin thinks he's right.
