The likes of Dyson and Clarkson had bought farm land specifically to avoid inheritance tax. Despite Clarkson's cuddly TV programme, I don't imagine he actually spends that much time on his farm, and I'd be surprised if his children would want to take it on. It's just 'tax planning' and Clarkson is now whining about this particular loophole being partially closed.

Still, Nick Griffin thinks he's right.
I’m pretty sure that if these family farmers employed a decent tax lawyer and put their farms into land trusts they would avoid inheritance tax completely. A little bit of CGT perhaps on the initial placement of the land into trust.

It’s not complicated, unless you are a farmer, or even more so if you are a celebrity farmer.

For an outsider looking in, it sh1ts me to see the poor farmer getting screwed again. The pollies, Starmer in particular, suggesting that the majority of farmers won't be affected by this tax, is bullsh1t. The govt, Labor, is shooting itself in the foot again, just like they have in Oz. When will they wake up and really listen to the people....... never apparently.

I've watched a reasonable amount of Clarksons farm series, enough to form an opinion that the farmer is already getting screwed by too many taxes. For fcuks sake, support them, don't kill them off.

This **** has about as much interest in farming as I do in Norse literature.

You genuinely want 10,000 men (and presumably all the Russian men who have been explicitly recruited/press ganged as canon fodder) who have probably had miserable, brain washed, lives, to be ‘wiped out’? These are real human beings, none of them created this situation. They are dupes, patsies, victims. Want to revise your post?

Great that Biden doesn’t have to take any consequences for his decision, because he’s gone.
No, I do not want to revise my previous post. 1000 days ago Putin chose to invade Ukraine (again, in 2014 he got away with his wrists slapped for taking over Crimea and Eastern regions). After all the devastation and destruction Putin has caused to the Ukrainian people, (and his own people) these are the consequences he must face. Good on Biden for finally manning up and doing this, providing the Ukrainians the tools to fight back and reek havoc on Russian territory. Hopefully the British, French and Germans follow suit. And Putin's response is to change his nuclear rules of engagement. My Kilburn based Dad and Grandfather, WWII and WWI veterans would have applauded Biden too for this actions in fact like at the R's games they attended together they would have both said, "Get in there"!

Yes, as Hillary and Biden indicated, Trump's supporters are "a bunch of deplorables" and "garbage" (not sure if Sleepy Joe really meant that in reference to the Republican comic calling Puerto Rico a floating heap of garbage?). At least Trump won the Electoral College this time out andh the Popular Vote, almost 50% (it appears late ballots from California are pegging him back). So as for the American people, "careful what you wish for", and look at the Rogues Gallery Trump intends to install in major portfolios in 2 months.

Hopefully over the next two months Biden will get as much high end weaponry to Ukraine ND Europe and NATO will step up for Ukraine as I'm sure Trump wants to hand Ukraine to Putin on a silver platter. Yes, Trump will maybe secure a so called "peace deal" where the terms will dictate that Putin gets to keep all of the territories stolen from Ukraine in the past 10 years.

More self-service checkout machines and fewer staff to save on Employers’ NI? Not so good. Increased prices for customers? Not so good
Those damn things are all the rage over here after store renovations, Call me a Luddite but I refuse to use them as it takes work away from the traditional cashier's job at check-out. Also no conveyor belt to load all your stuff onto and there is always the chance that you will be done for shoplifting if you mistakenly forget to check an item in your pile.

I’m with you - I avoid the self-service checkouts if possible. <cheers>

It’s much easier to nick bags for life from Waitrose at the self-service.

It does speed things up when only getting a few bits which I normally am. Leave the cashiers for Deidre buying 78 items with cash she has to reach into her purse for and count right at the end just before remembering she has separate coupons for 28 of those items.

I'm thinking of all the other farmers and their plight & future.

Here in Oz, we have a squillion farms dotted throughout the country, producing many things, one in particular is, pineapples ............ yet, with the wisdom of our govt in mind, we import cheap sh1t Dole pineapples from Mexico and of course, our shops like Coles & Woolworths, sell it cheaper than our home grown better product.

We are fcuking ourselves and Britain are doing likewise.

Yes. I think this is a separate issue.

The vast majority of farms aren’t affected. There are numerous ways around it if the intention truly is a ‘family farm’ the kids will carry on. Farmland has increased in value way above even house prices because of this tax loophole making it so attractive to buy. It’s wealthy landowners campaigning to not pay half the tax of everyone else over ten years. It’s mental their opinion is getting any serious airtime.

So you’d wish death on thousands of people, to ‘punish’ Putin who clearly doesn’t give a **** about other peoples lives. Like you it seems.

I see they’ve closed the US embassy in Kyiv, presumably because they know they’ve just upped the likelihood of missile strikes on civilians, who don’t have the option to leave. Nice one Joe.

Steelsy and Stainsey were right about this ****show from day one.

Biden sanctioning the use of US missiles inside Russia as a literal parting shot by his failed administration is a significant escalation and a dangerous mistake in my opinion. Who knows what Trump's overall approach will be, but you can be confident that he wouldn't have made this move. Starmer says he's doubling down on UK support for Ukraine and obviously wants British missiles to be used in the same way. I hope to **** he doesn't get his way.

Putin's new nuclear doctrine allows for the use of nuclear weapons in a scenario whereby Russia is attacked by a non-nuclear state 'with the support of a nuclear state', using conventional weapons supplied by that nuclear state. If the nuclear state is part of a defence coalition - ie NATO - then Russia would consider itself to have been attacked by that coalition. We're on the verge of World War 3.

russia change their 'nuclear doctrine' all the time. They've made up red lines and done ****all when they've been crossed. It's just noise, best ignored.

Seems starmers got his way then
Have they destroyed the bridge yet

All Putin has to do to make this pain go away is to retreat from another country's territory and give back Crimea and the Eastern Donbas region and let Ukraine destroy that Russian bridge link to Crimea. Also get the **** out of the Black Sea too, threatening Ukrainian grain exports to starving Africa.

People would rather the world let putin do whatever he wants and let his army rape/murder their way through Ukraine to the Polish border. They can have Moldova too.

Wouldn't want to escalate, would we? Only putin is allowed to do that, firing Iranian/North Korean missiles at Ukraine, using North Korean troops, committing infinite war crimes and flattening cities.

Allowing Ukraine to fire our missiles into Russia is a fairly meaningless gesture which will have almost no impact on the war. What do we do when Trump pulls the plug on Ukraine in January and overturns Biden's decision? Do we continue to allow Zelensky to fire our missiles into Russia, thereby making ourselves Putin's primary target should he decide that, as allowed under his new nuclear doctrine, Russia is at war with NATO?

The doctrine has changed multiple times since the war started. It's just the usual russian lies, they've threatened to nuke everyone every time they're unhappy about something.

We've barely sent them any missiles anyways. The restrictions on them were ridiculous in the first place and cost thousands of innocent civilian lives.

Trump is unpredictable, he has lots of pro-russians in his entourage but also loves money/projecting power. He may offer Ukraine a tab and let them get stuff. Time to wait and see. Whatever happens the poor Ukrainians have suffered so much, they'll keep on fighting whatever happens. If russia have a major breakthrough the anti-immigration lot will be in for a treat, Europe will get 20M+ asylum seekers at once

Netanyahu a war criminal? Surely not!

Oh yeah, he absolutely is.

The list of leaders convicted of war crimes is short. It’s a high bar despite the constant wailing of the wettest people in society for over a year. Not for me, Clive. It’s given our new generation of frothing Hamas fans something to savour so that’s nice for them.
