I lost my love 30 years ago S when farming starting dying and was influenced by family members ( a lot of cousins) who unlike me all join the forces or police. I couldn't get in because of my eye condition. Each one in turn all switched from loving the UK to peaching against it.
Only two family members have stayed in the UK since then to carry on the farm. Ask them today the state of the nation and they are filled with regret even if the crop spraying business that remains in Sussex is still successful .. its been a hard existence
Irish roots hard working ethic and a mother that had a vision that i still live by ... my parents purchased a villa in Menorca in 73 haven't looked back since. She was taken at a young age of 53 and so i guess i have always looked at time being the most value.
Found a way out and went abroad to guess where ... Three progressive Frog properties later and you get to experience the real differences in lifestyles and cultures. Doesn't need to be France mate just my choice.
Appreciate many wouldn't get this no problem we are all shaped by our own pasts. You don't get to see anything if you just count holidays. You have to experience real life abroad to make the exacting comparisons imo hence my strong stance on here against what i consider the programmed.
I come from a self made background that was fortunate to experience a blend of cultures. No better No worse but different yes
Therefore i am no Nationalist of the UK but of course my roots are still here and i sincerely love the UK as a country ... ts still stunning to me but as for the people and the culture i stand we lost it a lot time ago. no sure exactly when.
The unification of Germany still stands out for me exactly what a country can do when people come together.
Can anyone see us doing that? We are still stuck and programmed in the past ourselves imo still clinging to past glories from the war to 1966 in football. I consider myself a realist today in the now regarding the UK and also consider myself a person that made dreams come true.
I of course love the Irish ... nature or nurture. Best people on the planet imo
Maybe i never wanted to be English but i am but that doesn't mean that a person has to accept what we are all told. From my own experiences i still feel right to have questioned everything and the answers i found is that the UK has been in denial and decline for many many decades.
I say find your own space be thankful every day for exactly how formulate we all were when we were born and never forget it!
It's culturally broken at source but that doesn't ever cloud what i love about the UK and there are many things.

I believe that we have evolved into a very selfish nation filled to the brim with self obsession. I believe I get to see that in my professional life as often for my sins I work on projects to deceive the public into spending ... I do that with a corporate planning culture that many would find extremely disturbing
Couple that with years of service in the Big Pharma industry you may get my profile. I substituted a farm life for the careers I have had
I am without doubt the biggest hypocrite on here with my journey still with age we all get to see and feel what is wrong at a base level

Why do we all love QPR many reasons I guess for me they were always different ... away from the normal and in the 70’s that was the football I loved to watch at LR. As a QPR I knew we were different and certainly not normal or even stereotypical UK
The rest of them seemed to be mugs doing just the normal things in life and the culture that grew within the masses pushed me away more
I do not believe that the collective UK have the minerals to pull down on a belief that the UK is great it was always a programmed dream imo

I say again liquidate and do it now to any QPR fan it going to be very tricky

Incredibly ironic that you cite Germany as a paragon of virtue for re-unification, when the reason it was split in the first place was that it was responsible for a war that killed 85 million people. It may have less relevance to some with Irish roots because Ireland did not involve itself in the fight against the Nazis.

I'm a great admirer of Germany and the way they have turned their country around from a worldwide pariah, responsible for so many millions of deaths.
But to hold Germany out as an example to the UK after reunification is more than irritating. It's like saying to someone, "why don't you go to church regularly like Fred?" forgetting that Fred is a reformed serial murderer.
What I do feel proud of the UK is the manner in which it has opened itself to all nations and cultures around the world with the realism that we don’t necessarily have solid rights to where we find ourselves born on this planet

However that’s the belief and generation of which I am a part of that doesn’t even look after its own people and generation that lived through the last world war nor those who have served for us in our recent cock ups around the world

What was it about your cousins' experiences in the armed forces that disillusioned them with the UK? Was it actually the experience in the forces, or what they found when they returned to Civvy Street?

We all forgave Germany a long time ago. But the UK shouldn't be compared unfavourably on issues that are a consequence of Germany's past misdemeanours.
And yes, my Porsche is stunningly built too - and there's the irony, that Germany's slide towards recession is because the country is heavily manufacturing based. The UK's service weighted economy may save it from the same deep economic woes, particularly if a deal is agreed with the EU, whether it is before we leave on October 31, or shortly after we have left.

Mime in the UK is a old car but mega low mileage 4.8 v8 twin turbos plus had the monkey mapped to a silly state downside is I get 13mpg When I am here I love to drive it.

Weird in the UK you can buy a Porsche Cayenne Turbo for £6k or less Hard to find even a old one in France for under £18k even mime still on English plates gets £23k online as the French version of we buy any car etc .
My point is of course Germany will have to adapt to a post Brexit UK but I believe they will and I believe demand will be knocked back a lot so it’s just an adjustment story imo
