LOL. Let's go with that as a sensible response. So what, do you think, has changed since 1982 that has destroyed your confidence in Britain as a strong and resilient nation?

I lost my love 30 years ago S when farming starting dying and was influenced by family members ( a lot of cousins) who unlike me all join the forces or police. I couldn't get in because of my eye condition. Each one in turn all switched from loving the UK to peaching against it.

Only two family members have stayed in the UK since then to carry on the farm. Ask them today the state of the nation and they are filled with regret even if the crop spraying business that remains in Sussex is still successful .. its been a hard existence

Irish roots hard working ethic and a mother that had a vision that i still live by ... my parents purchased a villa in Menorca in 73 haven't looked back since. She was taken at a young age of 53 and so i guess i have always looked at time being the most value.

Found a way out and went abroad to guess where ... Three progressive Frog properties later and you get to experience the real differences in lifestyles and cultures. Doesn't need to be France mate just my choice.

Appreciate many wouldn't get this no problem we are all shaped by our own pasts. You don't get to see anything if you just count holidays. You have to experience real life abroad to make the exacting comparisons imo hence my strong stance on here against what i consider the programmed.

I come from a self made background that was fortunate to experience a blend of cultures. No better No worse but different yes

Therefore i am no Nationalist of the UK but of course my roots are still here and i sincerely love the UK as a country ... ts still stunning to me but as for the people and the culture i stand we lost it a lot time ago. no sure exactly when.

The unification of Germany still stands out for me exactly what a country can do when people come together.
Can anyone see us doing that? We are still stuck and programmed in the past ourselves imo still clinging to past glories from the war to 1966 in football. I consider myself a realist today in the now regarding the UK and also consider myself a person that made dreams come true.

I of course love the Irish ... nature or nurture. Best people on the planet imo
Maybe i never wanted to be English but i am but that doesn't mean that a person has to accept what we are all told. From my own experiences i still feel right to have questioned everything and the answers i found is that the UK has been in denial and decline for many many decades.

I say find your own space be thankful every day for exactly how formulate we all were when we were born and never forget it!

It's culturally broken at source but that doesn't ever cloud what i love about the UK and there are many things.

Paul, you sometimes come over as being ‘so far up your own arse’ I’m surprised you’ll ever see the light of day.
It’s as if you think you’re the only one who has traveled and who’s opinions count for anything.
I’m sure most on here have lived as equal as an exciting life as you have and who’s opinions count as equally as yours. The way you seem to look down on others just makes you look a bit of a cock, imho.

I believe that we have evolved into a very selfish nation filled to the brim with self obsession. I believe I get to see that in my professional life as often for my sins I work on projects to deceive the public into spending ... I do that with a corporate planning culture that many would find extremely disturbing
Couple that with years of service in the Big Pharma industry you may get my profile. I substituted a farm life for the careers I have had

I am without doubt the biggest hypocrite on here with my journey still with age we all get to see and feel what is wrong at a base level

My job has made me arrogant it’s what my job requires but I come on here for my love of another defining jigsaw piece my love for QPR I engage in no other social media

Why do we all love QPR many reasons I guess for me they were always different ... away from the normal and in the 70’s that was the football I loved to watch at LR. As a QPR I knew we were different and certainly not normal or even stereotypical UK

The rest of them seemed to be mugs doing just the normal things in life and the culture that grew within the masses pushed me away more

I do not believe that the collective UK have the minerals to pull down on a belief that the UK is great it was always a programmed dream imo

Tribalism should set a QPR supporter away from the normal imo
We are different although of course we are not as I have found out on here ... we are divided also

Apart from QPR I find it extremely difficult to attempt to be proud of the reality of the UK ... hence why I have acted upon those feelings even if our country has given me the freedom to think like that

I work for a very powerful organisation based in NY who generally are just greedy ****s bottom line ... I see the trends I understand the thinking I witness the plots and plans

I say again liquidate and do it now to any QPR fan it going to be very tricky

At least look into it with a open mind

Half the nation has no idea what a no deal will mean for the UK

Incredibly ironic that you cite Germany as a paragon of virtue for re-unification, when the reason it was split in the first place was that it was responsible for a war that killed 85 million people. It may have less relevance to some with Irish roots because Ireland did not involve itself in the fight against the Nazis.

Staines seriously mate if you knew me then you may know that it’s nothing but honest stuff and I think I may of proven that I certainly don’t find any offence in what people think of me

I fully accept that it does not come over to many but it’s a forum and I certainly do not comment with the intention of winding people up.

I have evolved into a arsehole I believe through my job which demands dictatorship and arrogance

Someone has to be responsible for decision making and that’s what I do in the same old way I was brought up on the farm. Maybe it’s wrong today no idea but I was taught to fight if required but believe in yourself and when you are wrong be man enough to admit and put things right without hesitation ... that’s the code and nothing else matters

I don’t chew the fat for anyone hence it matters not what others think of me

Make your point if you don’t agree in your way and if you are wrong then again put it right and even try and learn from it ... trouble is so many I know I don’t

I have no idea who has travelled where or what ... sure we have rich and poor on here again so what?

Seriously I know I am a ****er but at least those are my words

Is it entertainment ? I know it’s a release for me nothing more

I thought the Nazis were defeated back in 1945 before I was born

Thank you to everyone that got rid of them including my own British family albeit full of Irish blood. Thanks also to the French forces that backed up the evacuation at Dundirk

Thank you to the Russians who certainly gave those Nazis a real pasting

Thank you for peace in our time by the sacrifice of many so that I could evolve and enjoy life as I do .

We all remember and so we should

Those Germans were useless at war weren’t they? They have however grown back into a brilliant new nation so I give them credit that’s all

Germany today are they still Nazis ?
If you think that then you are wrong

I'm a great admirer of Germany and the way they have turned their country around from a worldwide pariah, responsible for so many millions of deaths.

But to hold Germany out as an example to the UK after reunification is more than irritating. It's like saying to someone, "why don't you go to church regularly like Fred?" forgetting that Fred is a reformed serial murderer.

What I do feel proud of the UK is the manner in which it has opened itself to all nations and cultures around the world with the realism that we don’t necessarily have solid rights to where we find ourselves born on this planet

I fully understand and respect that to many the UK has fallen by this belief

However that’s the belief and generation of which I am a part of that doesn’t even look after its own people and generation that lived through the last world war nor those who have served for us in our recent cock ups around the world

I respect I know what respect means
    I just question the programming

Hence why I believe the EU is stronger together and with us in it I also believe that our blame culture and protest culture has allowed Brexit to become the massive cock up it is

As a hypocrital mass consumer I find that Germany produces brilliant engineering for example in my car plus a big shout out to those American lads Apple

Other brands are available of course and this has nothing to do with Brexit or sub standard UK products in other markets

I'm really interested in drilling down further into these thoughts, P...

What was it about your cousins' experiences in the armed forces that disillusioned them with the UK? Was it actually the experience in the forces, or what they found when they returned to Civvy Street?

You're identifying a problem with UK culture, but what do you think is the reason for this?

I'm sure Odie, Frank et al with have their own thoughts, but I'm interested in yours.

Not sure it has anything to do with Fred West although that part of the UK I consider to be extra beautiful

    You must forgive Germany imo
It’s time to let it go
Seriously my Porsche is stunningly built

We all forgave Germany a long time ago. But the UK shouldn't be compared unfavourably on issues that are a consequence of Germany's past misdemeanours.

And yes, my Porsche is stunningly built too - and there's the irony, that Germany's slide towards recession is because the country is heavily manufacturing based. The UK's service weighted economy may save it from the same deep economic woes, particularly if a deal is agreed with the EU, whether it is before we leave on October 31, or shortly after we have left.

My family has experienced a full spectrum of events during service in first NI and then more recently in the Gulf war. The hardest hit was probably Andrew who made the SAS and was based in Hereford only in the last ten years has he begun to tackle what he did and why he did it

Still a very troubled man as I met him at another cousins funeral who was a police inspector based in Brighton.

He is very bitter inside of who is was back then and although he is reserved on detail having fully retired years ago I see the pain . Remember I am the butt of all jokes in my family as couldn’t get to follow the expected path laid my grandfather who we all lived with as youth

I was the hopeless blind ****er to them all ... The arty farty fairy

I still have one cousin still killing people for a very good living but he works in Dubai but even Trevor hasn’t got a good word to say about his service in the Gulf

All added up I got a free ride.
Even now I am told farming blood but knows nothing about stock

Macan Turbo, 2017. Twin turbos would be well suited to an aeroplane. Great fun to drive and after 2 years, I've just about trained myself to open it up on selected roads only. Saves my licence

Interesting, thank you. But none of that explains the disillusionment. Carrying out operations for Queen & Country will no doubt leave a scar, but what in your opinion has made the UK culture what it is, something you detest?

BTW, I agree that the UK culture - if that is the right description - is nowhere to what it felt like as a kid. Those on the left and right will no doubt blame each other for any deterioration.

Mate has the same car beautiful machine great choice

Mime in the UK is a old car but mega low mileage 4.8 v8 twin turbos plus had the monkey mapped to a silly state downside is I get 13mpg When I am here I love to drive it.

I notice that they are now appearing for very low prices. For a machine I don’t think you can currently buy better ? If you can afford the juice of course

Been done once but thankfully allowed to speeding school I will probably have to sell it I guess soon as it’s liquidation time for my partner and I

Had a French test drive in the Hybrid E Cayenne Turbo very impressed with that car but will have to pay EU money for that ... sort of reflects the differences in the marketplace of the UK and the tva/vat etc

Weird in the UK you can buy a Porsche Cayenne Turbo for £6k or less Hard to find even a old one in France for under £18k even mime still on English plates gets £23k online as the French version of we buy any car etc .

My point is of course Germany will have to adapt to a post Brexit UK but I believe they will and I believe demand will be knocked back a lot so it’s just an adjustment story imo

Did you know massive growing industry in London shipping out our old German cars to Russia for parts

Mrs just more for her BMW than trying to sell it as a car weird times
