A staunch Eurosceptic who once called for the Conservatives to form a political pact with the UK Independence Party, Rees-Mogg is one of the Conservatives' most rebellious MPs. As a practising Roman Catholic, Rees-Mogg opposed same-sex marriage on the basis that on such matters he took his whip from the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, not the Whip's Office.
Speaking in July 2017 Rees-Mogg conceded that '"I’ve made no pretence to be a modern man at all, ever". During the same interview, Rees-Mogg admitted that he had never changed a nappy, noting that “I don’t think nanny would approve because I’m sure she’d think I wouldn’t do it properly”
Regarding same-sex marriage, Rees-Mogg has stated that he is opposed to it and "not proud" of it being legal as it does not align with his Catholic faith[99] and that it will alienate traditional supporters of the party.
Also relating to his religious views, Rees-Mogg is against abortion in all circumstances, including in cases of rape, stating "I am completely opposed to abortion, life begins at the point of conception.
In December 2014, Rees-Mogg was reported to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority for speaking in debates on tobacco, mining and oil and gas without first verbally declaring he is founding partner and director of Somerset Capital which manages multimillion-pound investments in these sectors
And even the Catholic church think he is off-the-planet
He was one of the directors of the Catholic Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth in London who were ordered to resign by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor in February 2008 after protracted arguments over the adoption of a tighter ethical code banning non-Catholic practices such as abortions and gender reassignment surgery at the hospital.
Heaven forbid this happens!
A religious fundamentalist for PM. Brilliant.

I am not sure it's fair to judge a man by his own faith. Looks like a bloke who can focus on a task to me
When a man is open and expresses his opinions he gets my attention because there is no need for him to do that
Prefer that any day to a person who hides their beliefs away and reads off a script
Says vernSorry I have a different view LJ....I am none-too-keen on a person who wouldfight against abortion for a rape victim, a person who would stop two people in love getting married.
A man who can bend the (parlimentary) rules when it suits him to his own gain....but will prevent ordinary people getting on with their lives.
I strongly feel the repression of human rights. I hope the expression of my views on this matter has caught your attention.
(PS...I can really focus on tasks, its part of my Aspergers spectrum , it doesn't mean I would be any good at government...I wouldn't)

Hi Beth respect your opinion but I have to point out that Rees Mogg at no point claimed he wanted to over turn current U.K. laws on abortion
He believes that life is generated on conception. The scenario given to him by Piers Morgan was that a women was raped by a fellow family member. He concluded that the law is in place to protect situations like the one given so to me he fully understands and respects the law of the land
On same sex religious marriages I am with him anyway simply because religions haven’t really got that in their historical mandate so a bolt on to me dilutes any religion however ancient . Nothing against same sex partnerships or using the word marriage but in many cases throughout religion there have been specific records against same sex sexual relationships
To me therefore it’s clear keep the two things separate: religion and same sex unions they shouldn’t mix imo . If love conquers the boundaries of anyone’s faith then I respect its their decision and can have an alternative but they should never be allowed to re-write religion to suit themselves .. it’s the devil working imo
I also can’t see a man like this Rees Mogg bending any rules as he certainly appears transparent and honest to me. I am not aligned currently with the tories and their current management but this bloke seems light years ahead to me
About time people looked at albility to task rather than their personal profile
I would certainly buy a car from Rees Mogg no question
If he lets his religious views affect how he votes as an MP, he shouldn't be an MP, let alone Prime Minister in my opinion. He's not light years ahead. On the contrary, his views are decades - if not centuries - behind. Perhaps he should be a used car salesman.
Well of course if is a big word but you are right of course in that scenario he could choose a cabinet aligned with his views. He seems open to me and I believe if the public wanted a return to values and traditions then a forward thinking open honest person to me would appear light years ahead because that exactly what this country needs to change the perception of political office

I don't like some of the views of WR-M one iota, and certainly don't think he should act on his religious views in his role as MP unless it is clear that the rest of the country (and by that, I don't mean just the views of the ones who voted for the government and feel they "won", I mean the whole country) agrees.
Will the non-dom, oligarch-owned media moguls permit their outlets to support WR-M and his views, I wonder? Or will they be consistent and crucify him in the way they did Tim Farron?
Thank you for your help on this matterWRM hasn’t a clue or a chance to be a PM.

The situation you describe is heinous, but I don’t think that JRM, or 99.999999% of those who say they are religious, would ever do such things. It’s a bit disingenuous to lump everyone in together...I'm always distrustful of religious nut jobs that claim life is sacred - then like those nuns in Ireland - treat the resultant child so appallingly bad that many die in childhood and get buried in unmarked graves. Probably to punish the sins of the parent.
