I am not worried about what they think. The Australian PM likes him and we will be doing business with them in the future. Get ready for the market to be flooded with boomerangs.
On a serious note, I can see us walking away because the EU is deliberately trying to @@@@ up Brexit. These meetings with Labour are another stunt to try and overturn the will of the people. Should have got Nigel Farage to sort out these negotiations.
I would have thought that Corbyn's Labour should be given a year or two in power before you could fairly pronounce on their competence. As to ideologues, Starmer is certainly no such thing, and I reckon Corbyn is much more pragmatic than you judge him to be. The Tories are making a right royal ****-up of Brexit. Let's let the other lot have a go.
Merkel and Macron being totally intransigent in the Brexit negotiations, trying to make us bid against ourselves. Great news that the government is preparing for WTO rules as a fall-back. The EU bloodsuckers'll keep trying for more if they see weakness.
BMW won't bring pressure until it sees tariffs imminent on one of its major export markets. Then EU leaders will have to justify their intransigence
Merkel May take months to put a government together, Macron is trying to drive through a massive domestic reform programme, Brexit might not be top of their list of priorities despite what we think. And at the moment who are they meant to be negotiating with on our side, there is no one with authority. Our government is preparing for WTO rules (which it should have been from June last year) do you think the EU has not prepared for no deal?
We'd be lucky if it's on the first page of their priorities. We are preparing to throw our toys out the pram and blame the EU for not kowtowing to our might empire.
Heard that before under Sarkozy and it never happened. What did Zarkozy say something like in 3 years the whole of France would be on mains drains....yeah right, typical French, say one thing and it never happens. As soon as BMW and the rest of the bunch realise we will walk away things will change very quickly.
Personally, I would have given him the job of wowing Barnier with his charm and wit. When the disaster unfolded, May, as an apparent remainer, would have been able to shift all the blame on to him and bury him for all time. She missed a trick there. Instead, she decided to make the campaign all about her, adopted all the worst elements of the Leave campaign and believed in her own infallibility. The problem with the apparent democratic shift to the right we were all told had happened is that it was dreamt up in the Telegraph, Mail and Sun. They have to take as much blame as their spokespersons in Parliament for failing to notice what was really going in the real world. Ordinary people were sick to death of hearing that they were going to have to keep tightening their belts for several years more while those with pots of money already were going to continue to be pampered on the basis that if we didn't they would leave. They failed to see that the more they ridiculed Corbyn and McDonald the stronger he was becoming. They may well make the same mistake the next time because they will probably look for some sleazy scandal to tarnish his image. Nobody will believe them now if they abandon their negative style of campaigning and suddenly run for office on the basis of positive policies of what they intend to do to help all of us to prosper in the future. Here's a clue - a manifesto which promises more than just tax cuts, cuts in public spending and promises of strong stable government, delivered by a cold wet fish.
Couldn't care less what the EU has or hasn't prepared for. They are being deliberately intransigent and we should tell them to **** off! Please, just tell them to **** off!
No, Col, they aren't. We are just being unintentionally useless because our lot have no intention of doing anything but kick the can down the road. Fortunately, the number of people with your mindset of wishing for something that has no tangible benefit appears to be dwindling.
The French have realised that they elected a pup in Macron. His popularity has taken a huge dip. He'll never deliver on his rhetoric imo.
It doesn’t have to be a success for him to be fully occupied by it - probably even more busy if it’s the predicted struggle. Here’s how the German car industry will respond to no deal. WTO tariffs on cars are a maximum 10%. They already sell their cars much cheaper in the US (where they have to pay tariffs) than here - a 1.4 Golf is £4K cheaper. They will simply absorb the tariff into their list price, and take a hit on margin, but still get more profit per car than in the US. The biggest risk to them is a collapse in the value of the £ against the €, which they have had to manage already.
Utter tosh! Latest poles show that a majority of people, including remainers now just want the best deal done quickly. Your tainted view of the government prevents you from seeing how totally uncooperative the EU have been. They want to make an example of us and punish us. Have you not read any of the quotes coming from them regarding this? Just tell them to **** off!!
Don’t ask me, ask your government. Believe it or not I agree. The shine has worn off him very quickly.
Obviously people want the best deal possible and ideally quickly if it has to happen, which doesn't go very well with your 'just tell them to **** off' approach. I don't know the other side too well. I just know we have a PM who was pro-Remain and senior members of the government advocating all sorts of things while the clock ticks and we simply lack the infrastructure required to implement what a 'just **** off' Brexit would require.
I will agree in that we have messed about a lot with Brexit however, those bureaucrats in Brussels are doing everything they can to not only punish us but try and get the result overturned. In this country, there are certain elements of industry/business/media that cannot accept the result and are trying their best to derail negotiations. Davis came out of the negotiations 2 weeks ago believing they had made progress only for them to change their minds and say the opposite. He was double-crossed. You could see it on his face after the press conference. They are playing a game with us. https://www.theguardian.com/politic...smisses-eu-wrangling-brexit-divorce-bill-game The media here Sky/BBC then ran the story that negotiations weren't going too well which has now led onto the story of the EU talking to Labour and both Germany and France blocking Brexit has nothing to do with us. http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/863500/Merkel-Macron-Brexit-transition-Michel-Barnier-Juncker Now Howard Davies steps in putting the frighteners into banking and economy which doesn't help either the government or negotiations http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...-rbs-chairman-sir-howard-davies-a7989206.html We had a strong hand to begin with but thanks to many our hand has been weakened. We need to go on the front foot because believe it or not our country has fab workers and is a great place for business. I have worked and lived in Europe and other parts of the World and none of them have a touch on us. At my place in France it took 5 days with 6 workers to put in a 3-foot high plastic bus stop. If that had been here 1-2 blokes half a day. I agree with Col and tell them to F22k off. If people love the EU so much go live and work there. (actually I don't mean that but you know what I mean).
