Tell you what's boiling my p!ss with these knackers is the the line being trotted out "yes we are asking people to contribute a little bit more" no you are forcing people to and they'll go to jail if they don't!
I’m with you on the spin mind. I hate spin. The truth is ‘we need to tax you because billionaire financiers have put the interest rates up and we haven’t got the balls to take them on but we don’t want kids to suffer’ I’m sure people would respect honesty.

This was her announcement a few days before the budget

This is why I keep thinking there’s some hysteria about something she didn't say. For those who think I’m defending her, my position is first and foremost, she should have gone for wealth and windfall taxes not taxes for people on 52k and they have no knackers because they’re all after donors (as all of the main 4 are) However I do like some decisions - child poverty, mansion taxes, train freezes, investment in youth training etc so I’m not going to piss the bed over it.
My general point is that the establis hment are after them because they represent us more than the tax relief and service cut boys who ownour media and democracy and they are out to get the most working class cabinet we’ve had. I find it a nit pathetic the number of people from the North East backing the establishment in recent times. Starmer essentially is through his former role. Reeves and Rayner less so. Farage earned 1.2 million this year and never attends parliament and is outed for racism. Silence. They are trying to bring down the people who tax them in favour of losing services we need. Have a think man.
She has went after millionaire farmers and those in expensive house yet this is the **** she gets. :-) look at some of the posts on here from Working class people. They have some brass neck to say they are t led by the right wing dominated media :-)

I feel it’s worse when people like her come from a humble background and work their way to the top only to lie and steal off the people who put them there,
Mind there are Labour luvvies who don’t think her and Starmer have done anything wrong.
What sad people.
I expect and not surprised when the Tories fleece the working class, but boils my piss when the so called “working class Party” s**ts on us, Reeves was full of rage and anger supporting the WASPI women when in opposition even attending protests with her mother but when in a position to act she does sweet FA

Aye, it’s really sad isn’t it, mind that’s the way bent MPs act once they are in power.

The date of that was 14th November. The speech she gave at Downing street was on the 4th November. At that speech she made no reference to improved forecasts, but we now know she had them at that point. That is where people claim she has misled them. Had she said at that point productivity is down but tax take is up so we are better off overall, nobody would have a stick to beat her with. As it stands, on the 4th November she left key information out and left it unsaid for 10 days. Some might argue we only got the article on the 14th because the FT had already been running stories about the change of heart on income tax rises.

None of this changes my opinion on the budget. But calling that breakfast news conference was quite extraordinary, and now to understand only part of the picture was shared is problematic imo.

That's more or less it. Sleight of hand. You might get away with it in many other circumstances. But not when you're the chancellor.

Whatever excuses are made, the most important people are the bond markets. And they are not happy having been played.

.

I have to say, that statement makes me very sad indeed and pretty much says it all ...

... no wonder I choose to live in my own happy little bubble.

I’m not happy with the bond markets. Bankrupting our nation and others for profit. This stuff ruins lives.

What I am happy to concede is that budgets these days are leaked out and spun and they shouldn’t be. It was the same under the last lot. It should be kept for parliament. Nobody ws calling for Sunak or Hunt to go when they did it. They weren’t female and working class and they didn’t introduce a mansion tax. I see the bloke from the OBR has gone for being crap at his job and undermining her.

Isn’t it a shame that the only honest person out of the three loses his job, while the other two corrupt scroats carry on as though nothing has happened.
Their day isn’t far away.
“ crap at his job and undermining her”
In other words, letting the British public know we have two bent MPs in charge of the country.
Well done sir, proud of you.

I have been told by our right leaning friends on here that Rachel from Accounts has wrecked the economy (it was in a fantastic state in July 2024 was it not?) yet she is being **** upon because the economy is doing better than people expected not that she will get any credit for that.

I’m also told she shouldn’t tax wealthy people as it will drive them from the country and stop them creating jobs. So she spreads the tax burden around but those with broader shoulders, like millionaire farmers and very large home owners, pay a little more. Seems fair enough.

Damned whatever she did. Take away the right wing driven media ****e and it’s a good budget with a focus of taking kids out of poverty.

You think releasing the information before the budget is someone doing their job right? You think wider leaks are professional for a public body? I think it’s pretty universally accepted that the OBR isn’t the best model of practice either. So tell me why you like them so much?

The right have a real issue with people like Starmer, Reeves and Raynor. People from working class families and backgrounds, who without a silver spoon, work hard to get a good education and career. They should be your typical Tory success story, accept these individuals recognise their backgrounds and have become Labour politicians not Tories to help others. Of course Rach has had the audacity to target wealthy farmers and £2.5m home owners which makes her even more of a target for the right.

Working class people on here calling Starmer a ‘****er’ literally have no idea the effort and ability to become a KC or Reeves getting to Cambridge and get a 1st with no school tie. Both Starmer and Reeves could x10 their salaries in the real world but aye they are ****ers in choosing to serve their country. You can see the influence of right wing media when working class people turn on their own but many fall for it eh?

Good to see kids coming out of poverty through the budget but still happy to let them go hungry mate?
However they aren't helping hard working class people, they are not helping people who are working 3 jobs to support their families.
They are helping those too lazy to get off their arses and work.
It should never ever be beneficial to stay at home doing nothing , sponging off the state than it is to work.
Support people who are prepared to work, support people that CAN'T work.

I agree completely we need to get people back to work who can, particularly the long term unemployed for the benefit of themselves as much as us as tax payers.

I had some involvement in the last Labour government’s New Deal programme that brought a wide range of partners together to do that and generally worked.

This labour government has a similar Get Britain Working programme (I think it’s called you can google) which is coming into place. Of course with the right wing media you won’t hear any good stuff but hopefully that will start to make some inroads into what is a big problem for this country.

As Becs highlighted further up the thread a lot of the measures in the budget will help working low income families but again you won’t see our media highlighting these needed measures.

I can never get my head around people saying the fault lies with the right wing media and the people listen to them, I wonder how Labour got in with a record majority.
Maybe the people who are saying this aren’t to blessed up top.
