Bleddy hell sensible....I nearly started a collection for you...............you ex-Naval types sure know how to pull at the heart strings.......you want to live around the London area on a pension.......good job that nice Mr Cameron has allowed us to keep our freedom passes so we can get to the local food bank.

ps........and a layer of snow outside as well this morning.

Just watched a bore game of Leicester v Spurs. You would think where these sides are in the league it would have been a cracker but have to say I very nearly turned it off at one stage. I would much rather have watched Exeter. Everything back to normal with no clubs in Devon still in the Cups for another season.

Exeter will have done well financially out of this run of games and I heard today on the News it was likely they would get about £600k which will be extra revenue to what was expected. This got me thinking and I looked up Argyle's season average crowd so far. Now you cannot tell me we budgeted for more than around the 7500 mark gate wise at the start. We have averaged so far just over 9100 which will have generated a fair amount of extra income not accounted for at the start. Thats 1600 extra an if you take the ball park figure of £15 per ticket works out at £24k extra per home match. We have played 14 home games so extra income should be around £340k so far this season.

I think one or two of you might think "here we go again" with the next bit. Can anyone tell me where any of this extra cash has been spent?

Not sure i agree with your maths sensible, average price of a ticket works out at £11-12 (CEO's figures)and don't forget at least 1500 of the attendees at the Stevenage game were on freebies. That said, I think the upturn in attendances will have realised about £250k. It may go towards strengthening the squad although DA doesn't seem to be that bothered to bring anyone in- after all he has a 'full strength squad' to pick from. I suspect that because it is such a small amount it will just go towards the day to day running of the club and to keep it in the black. One thing is for sure, the way the club is structured means it wont be going into JB's back pocket.
 
The £15 figure is one I read somewhere previously so not made up by me. "I suspect that because it is such a small amount"??????? really lyndhurst? This is league 2 and even that amount is substantial. Thing is, if we remain in the promotion race we will continue to get decent gates and more than must have been budgeted for initially. Over the season that tiny £250k would probably double. Guess I shouldn't be ready to be surprised then. Thought not. I can't actually see anything different in the day to day running either to account for it so guess it will go to that other place. Debt repayment where it's said everything else goes.
 
My point was that £250k isn't a huge amount in terms of buying a player, granted it may help with some loanee wages. Look at it a different way and it is only £5k a week (the club operates 52 weeks a year ish) but only generates significant income on 23-30 of these weeks. I just think that the unbudgeted income (if that is what it is) could easily be swallowed up by general running costs and might be the difference between operating in the black or red. I have no idea what the financial situation is at the moment but I doubt we have cash sloshing about (that wouldn't have to be repaid). A significant windfall like Exeter have realised is different as it wouldn't have been included in any of their financial 'models' so it genuinely is 'spare cash'. I imagine Argyle will have worked out their budgets based on a number of different scenarios and will therefore know exactly what the impact of a certain average crowd might be.
 
Do you reckon we pay anyone £5k a week lyndy? At a guess £250k would be 2 small fees, i.e. £25k each, and just short of £2k per week in wages which would be quite a reasonable salary in this league. The £250k IS genuinely "spare cash". I don't go along with "extra" unbudgeted cash being needed to keep the club operating in the black either. I do agree they will have done their sums for break even on a set income from gates which would most definately have been less than we have averaged. I await the new signings with bated breath. It's either that or the back pocket in my book.
 
Some players in this league are not worth 2k, let alone paying them that amount.. I wonder who the top earner would be in League 2? Some of those cocks in the prem get that an hour.. disgrace..

no we dont pay anyone anything like £5k- tbh I would be surprised if there are any/many on more than £1k a week(basic)-perhaps the £250k might be set aside as the title win bonus for sharing out between the players and staff....
 
I know you and notdistant disagree about Brent lyndhurst but I have yet to see much in the way of committment from that direction. He has done some things but not a lot in my book and has not yet done anything really worthwhile. All the main aspects have been shelved mainly with the excuse we can't afford it. If he sacrifices this opportunity for the sake of a couple of quid then he won't be forgiven.
 
Not sure finance has got anything/much to do with the lack of activity in the transfer market. I genuinely don't think DA is that bothered about bringing anyone in-or more likely he is very confident that his targets will be secured next week. No point in bringing anyone in unless they are going to play and am not sure who he could bring in that is better than what we have. If we get injuries the emergency transfer window remains available after the end of Jan. From everything I have seen/heard and read in the last couple of weeks I think DA is very content with his plan and the funds available.
 
Well...................I've sat here all evening in anticipation, with the required bated breath and all that. What have I got for my troubles.....bleddy nothing is what. I got excited for a few minutes and even opened a bottle of fizzy water thinking we had actually signed someone. I can't afford Champagne. That turned out to be a false rumour and I've now wasted my birthday bottle of drink for nothing. It's not my birthday yet but I had the bottle in for the occasion in case the price went up. I feel really pee'd off now. My Saturday was ruined by me having to sit through hours and hours of crap and now they've ruined my Monday as welll. At my age I can't afford to be wasting time. I think I'm going to have to break out the wine gums.

Might raise a glass in a minute. Reasonable results for us tonight. Portsmouth held in the 94th minute by goal scored by Morecambe keeper from a corner. They must be well gutted with that. No win for Yeovil as a booster for Saturday either so again decent result.
 
Just watched a half decent cup match on the beeb this evening. Thought Posh did well agains WBA and it was hard to see who the league one side was at times. Lost it on penalties in the end which is always a sad way to go out of anything for me. I know they have to decide it one way or the other but it's so cruel. They spoke to old Barry Fry just before the start of extra time. Still a right old character who I thought might have popped his cloggs by now. He looks a lot calmer than he used to when he was managing. Good honest old fashioned game though and the Ref did well by not blowing for every little niggle and booking players. Bit snot and blood at times too and he let it go. Was worth the watch.
 
Blimey sensible....you make me feel that I've been cheating the grim reaper for too long.......Barry Fry is only a mere boy at 70 yrs of age....he's not 71 until April.

Good game tonight.....Posh very good for the first 30 odd minutes with their slick passing game........I can remember driving up there all those years back when we needed a win there to beat Blackburn for the title and lost 1-0.....it would have been level three....what ever they called it then.......the place was over-run with Argyle supporters.
