She has retired to her virtuous couch after a bottle of white and another week of slogging her guts out at Derriford Hospital. Something about Matelot and Nurse marriages, been together for 28 years and never a cross word.

You're just a novice then. 45 years and there was one day I think in 1982 that we didn't argue. I think she was visiting her family that day and stayed overnight. The phone did ring in the evening but I ignored it. "Matelot and Nurse marriages" sounds like an excuse to dress up if you ask me.......bleddy perve.

I was always brought up to believe that when the good guy went to court they were believed and the bad guy wasn’t. Unfortunately it comes down to who has the best legal team who wins. For me it took 3 years of ignoring court orders and fighting like hell, my solicitor having a nervous breakdown through the way that I was treated to get justice. I was asked if I would go to court and help others fight instead of just accepting the judgement but sadly I couldn’t because I needed to work for money and that would have been voluntary.
Several years later I was a Jury member and on our last case the foreman was one of the 3 who said not guilty, if I say he turned nasty and ugly in an attempt to sway the other 7 jurors to his way of thinking, it would be an understatement.
I personally have no respect for the law as I have witnessed first hand how it can be manipulated.
However it was who said the law is an ass, couldn’t have spoken a truer word.

Jools......obviously the manipulaters are the ones who have no respect for the law.......so sorry to hear of your hard times and how it effected you and how it came down to personal finance..... that kept you from getting the justice you felt you deserved......money can control so much of our lives.......that's why the very rich pay so little tax.

There will always be exceptions to every case jools but it is the only system we have and without a system it would be chaos. It is still my belief that the vast majority of people who sit on a Jury will do their best to come up with the right decision and will also do their best to consider all the things they have heard.

I've just read a piece on the PAFC website about Football V Homophobia and was going to start a thread asking why there seems to be a need to advertise your sexuality if you are not hetrosexual these days. I'd probably get into trouble with some so decided to have a pint in the bar instead. Pink Gin anyone?

At the risk of being controversial I suspect it is because football is one of the few areas of society left where non hetrosexuals are still fearful of the reaction if they were to come out. In many respects it is no different to the 'kick out racism' campaign. Neither should be necessary, but until football catches up with the rest of society the campaigns are a necessary evil. It matters not what an individual's prejudices are, equitable treatment regardless of gender, race, sexuality, age or physical impairment is enshrined in law. Even the RN and the other forces are now seen as excellent equal opportunity employers so it shouldn't be too difficult for football to get it's house in order- just need to provide an environment and management that is not dominated by white, middle aged , hetrosexual males.(and I am one of those!).

Nope still don't get the need to tell the world what your preferences are. Who cares and I suspect the vast majority of their team mates don't either. There will always be some in all walks of life never mind white middle aged whatevers. You are one you say lyndhurst and I am one on the slightly older end of the age bit. You don't care if somebody is gay, straight or even slightly curved. I don't care either so it's hardly a majority who do and I doubt it's a question they get asked on meeting somebody either. The fact PAFC felt obliged to put a neon sign on their advert for this in pink is rather stereo typing also. I mean come on, why pink for god sake.

On a note of some importance did anyone bother to watch the match on the beeb tonight? I didn't watch it all but did manage about two thirds. I thought Cambridge did really well and deserve their payday at Old Trafford. Played quite well in the first half without really creating much and defended well in the second with Man U not creating much. Good advert for the second division and a not very good one for the prem which always pleases me.

Correct I don't care and I suspect that the vast majority of normal people don't. But there remains at least a perception that football isn't 'gay friendly' so I suspect the campaign is as much to reduce this perception even if it isn't born out by reality. As far as pink is concerned I suspect(though don't know) that this is the national campaign colour scheme- if it is just something that Argyle has done then it demonstrates that the club have missed the point that the campaign aims to kick prejudice out , not reinforce it.
Coincidentally have tonight watched the v good BT sport 'documentary' on the 'Crazy gang' and whilst the events were taken from some time ago one of the main contributors was John Fashanu- who's brother committed suicide after coming out as the first gay footballer-although he says something in the programme about a brother he never had . He has also made the following comment in a different interview:

‘It’s a macho man’s game and I think there are reasons why we haven’t had any gay footballers come out, I don’t believe there will be. I’m not saying there aren’t some there, but I can tell you in twenty years of playing all my matches I have never come across a gay footballer'.

There will obviously be gay footballers playing across the leagues this weekend but with attitudes like this it is no surprise they are reluctant to come out. Mind you he claims it is a macho man's game but as we all know this is pretty far from the truth these days as most are a bunch of lightweight Prima- Donnas.!

I don't care and I am not at all interested in anyone's sexual preference but I do think we ought to have a society where everyone feels comfortable enough to be honest about themselves, if they want to be.

Watched about an hour of it-Cambridge decent value for their draw-only problem is that they will apparently make £1.5 million from the replay which means they are another L2 club with money to spend.

Do they want to buy some players? We could sell them.........(please fill in blanks up to £1.5m and no you can't name all of our players). It's nice to know the premiership has some uses anyway.

Have to be off to bed in a short while as have to be up before the sun in the morning. Hope it's not too cold in Kent plym. Away until Friday so will be back to post last for next Saturday and the great reversal weekend. I think Joe might need a lay down after that one. Have a good week all and I'll leave a bag of crisps for you all to share behind the bar.
