Notdistant seems to think there is a racist element in commenting about the united nations being in one of our cities and for me there isn't. It isn't a case of spotting a white face it is the language being spoken which I find the more peculiar. The amount of non English was a bit of a shock. I found Coventry to be dirty. There was so much litter laying around and it was pretty much everywhere. This is down to the local population throwing it there and shows a lack of respect for where you live in my book. Coventry in itself isn't bad though and there are some interesting places to see. We went on what was supposed to be a Cotswolds weekend where you have day trips out and about. We did it last year and stayed in a Hotel outside of Coventry and did the villages and Stratford etc. We didn't see anything of Coventry though so decided to go again and not do the trips out. £109 for 4 days (3 nights half board and getting there and getting home) isn't that expensive for a weekend away and I don't mind sitting on a coach. Nor does the Mrs who is well thank you. Not the most exotic of weekends but you do get to see parts of England at a reasonable price. Makes a change from being at home and having everyone about.
Funny, I would never consider Leicester and Coventry to be "the cotswolds" I consider Wiltshire, parts of Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and yes Stratford but Leicester and Coventry are surely just Cities in the midlands - hardly Cotswold country!
BTW why is it considered racist to expect to find a few of the natives in their own country and expect the native language to be spoken at least some of the time? I must be getting old
The Barbers I go to (yes I do have plenty of hair) in Bromley is run by Romanians......very pleasant and friendly...but very limited english language.....also quite a few Romanian girls in the eating outlets as well.....taking over from the Polish who seem to be going home.
Coventry isn't Cotswolds it's just where you stay because the hotels are cheaper I suspect. The area around is easy to reach which is the Cotswolds bit so as they go out there on day trips then it is advertised as Cotswolds. It only takes about 30 minutes to get to Stratford Upon for example. Racist is where you abuse somebody because of what they are or where they come from not to have an opinion on immigration. I think all of the politicians are afraid to shout too loudly on the subject in case they get into hot water from somebody looking for a story. I spoke to a taxi driver about 15 months ago whilst on a journey who was eastern european himself. Was talking to him about how long he had been here and why he came. He said that unfortunately most eastern europeans do things comfortably that are against the law which is usual in their culture. If I had said most europeans are not law abiding being English how would that sound. I'd be accused of racism but it is ok to say it if you are from there. Not that I have that opinion particularly but you get the drift.
Have any of you been up the Hight Street on the way to Wembley, I thought I was in a foreign country, was stuck in a traffic jam so spent the time counting something on the way to Wembley if you catch my drift and in an hour we counted 22 lol
Mrs Plymborn had to go to Glasgow about 5 years ago for a course she was doing.......I went to London Euston with her using British Rail and the underground........being typically me we arrived far too early and went for a walk outside of the terminus.......our eyes were opened to all the local shops, those that weren't boarded up of course. There wasn't any shops we recognized at all, they were all small asian food outlets catering for every eastern country you could think of or asian greasy spoon type eating establishments and of course takeaways. Silly us thought we would find a coffee/tea shop to pass some time away in......there was nothing catering for british tastes at all......and after awhile it dawned on us that we were the only white british anywhere on the street and walking around with a suitcase we stood out rather........so we scurried back to Euston Station and had our tea and coffee in there....served by non-british workers of course. It is easy to understand how the National Front or whatever they call themselves these days do well in certain areas.Large chunks of inner cities have turned into ghettos and you certainly don't feel welcomed.....but of course it is not politically correct to want England to be mainly for the English. OK I'm hoping that I can get a traditional English breakfast or at least a pasty and pint in here......come on sensible chop chop you seem to be serving today.
I think you will find the NF has been replaced by the TPF (Tooting Popular Front) Of course we know who is really to blame for the invasion of Foreign labour... Carl Bloody Fletcher thats who. His immigration policy is tactically inept and he has no plan B. Should be hung drawn and quartered AGAIN!!!!!
Yea that Fletcher has a lot to answer for.......some say he's considering dabbling in football next but no real sign of that happening as yet.
Apparently that hinges on the outcome of his trial at the War Crimes Commission. Verdict not due until Saturday morning but as long as the hanging, drawing and quartering is quick he may still catch the second half As long as we are only 2 nil down will give him time to make another inspired substitution and with home advantage 4-2 win no worries.
Golly gosh........I didn't know he was up before the War Crimes Commission........I knew there was something iffy about the fella but I didn't realize it was that bad.......no wonder he isn't able to concentrate on making Argyle a better team at present.......when he comes out of jail in thirty years time someone might of sorted out the job for him.
I'm thinking of organising a Peter Ridsdale benefit evening because he did so much for us and has now fallen on hard times. Fancy dress I think would be the order of the day. Drinks cost £1 in his honour and there will be a raffle thrown in with every drink and the winner gets to own Argyle. Second prize will be a pair of walking boots. For entertainment there will be a reverse auction where the person making the lowest bid will own an Argyle player of their choice.
I'll have 4 tickets please Sensible Do you think I could get away with putting brass washers in the collection for him ?
Will there be a bucket collection to help PR keep the wolf from the door during the benefit evening........although he is saying that it shouldn't affect his PNE job..... they are saying that they will be reviewing the situation. I do believe that there could be a walking tour job made especially for him.......on Exmoor/Dartmoor during Jan/Feb time a free tent and equipment will be supplied..... that will compensate for not finishing the previous one to help poor old Argyle out.
There will definately not be any bucket collections. I am expecting a huge turn out and at least £1000 to be raised which after tax will be £1000. After Administration fees are paid then I look forward to handing him a cheque for £2. This will be enough to send him on his way to the outskirts of the City on the bus to save him walking.
I've slipped in for a quick pint.....to calm my nerves........1-0 down at half time.......reports on PASOTI & ATD of match are not too good for Argyle. Despondent fans getting wound up about Argyle's performance and why have we got more injuries since last weeks match,,,,,what the hell are they doing in training to cause players to be crocked. They are asking why is Madjo on the bench.....is he carrying an injury....and if not why isn't he playing if not injured....this could be his last game. Carl Fletcher needs to change things around in trhe second half.....this is a game we need to win.
OK this is all my money barman.......make sure there's enough for the taxi......with the rest just line the pints up and don't let me fall off the stool....I can't take anymore of this....Mrs Plymborn and myself are spending three days down Bognor Regis from Monday. I hope a few days away will help me forget about how poor this club is performing under it's present leadership.......if there is a pier down Bognor I've told Mrs Plymborn not to let me go near it incase I do something in a moment of despair.
Have a smashing break Mr & Mrs Plymborn ! Hopefully you dont jump off and we see you again at the end of the week .... I'd join you to jump off but knowing my luck the tide would be out !!!!!!!!!!!!!
