I think I am right but if Barca are making such a big deal out of this then they are fully committed to this. They cannot fail it thier rebuild will lose fan support so I really think we can drag the value out of them

Whatever it is make them pay it. Pretty sure it's between £70M and £80M. If Spurs can squeeze £100M out of Real for Bale we should at least get the release clause for Suarez.

The only bargaining power they have is the threat of dragging this out til the end of the window before snatching him and leaving us without a replacement.

I'd like to think the club aren't stupid enough to have had discussions with replacements while the Suarez transfer is ongoing in the knowledge he'll be off rather than he leave mid August and us suddenly go "****, let's find someone who we haven't scouted or even spoke to the club about and try and buy him now!"

They've opened their gob enough about it

And they have enough other problems at their club that they don't need to make a new one

Think I'm the only person here who thinks if Aspas got the Borini treatment (loaned to a PL where he'd be a starter) he'd probably come good(ish). Remember thinking he looked pretty good against Stoke first game of the season, then his confidence seemed to just disappear.

Maybe, but everyone loves a scapegoat. He is at least a trier. The difference to Borini is also age - Borini is 23 and developing, Aspas is 26 and should be near peak. Do you honestly see him becoming Liverpool quality? If not, then its perhaps better for everyone if he moves on to further his career.

No, he'll never be that good, maybe squad player, but we could get a lot more for him than if we tried to ship him out now.

Didn't something similar happen with Torres/Carroll? Albeit it was a different team then.

Depends. If we loaned him to, say, Swansea or Sunderland and he failed to make an impact, that could affect his price downward. Now he's only not good enough for Liverpool, then he could be not good enough for Swansea/Sunderland, as well as being one year older and having one year less on his contract.

Ideally, of course, perhaps with game time in the cups etc. he'll get used to England and become a useful squad player. And that's possibly not beyond him, just far from certain imo.

To be honest, its not my most pressing concern right now though.

EDIT: Just seen that some's written "He's the world's worst player" on his Wikipedia page. That's just a tad harsh.

That was a bit different as we didn't know Torres was going 2 months before the window closed though.

You think we'd sign replacements before the Suarez deal was done though? Given our track record of losing out on targets at the last minute I wouldn't feel confident that we'd be able to get it done even if discussions had already taken place. Not to mention most available players of real quality might have been snapped up by then assuming the Suarez deal runs late. I'd still hold out for all we can get from Suarez, but wouldn't be shocked if we ended up having to wait til January to reinvest his transfer fee.

For the relatively small fee involved I think it would be worth giving him the season on loan. But agree it really is non-issue.

Unless our board are complete tools, nothing on Suarez will be announced until replacements have been bought. Mostly so that we're no left with our pants down looking for new players with weeks (or days) to go until the new season starts and the window closes, and secondly so that we don't get screwed over in new deals because we've got money burning a hole in our pockets.

If Saurez leaves to Barca (I don't see them offering enough money, so it's still a big if) before anyone else is brought in to LFC, our transfer committee and largely Ian Ayre are ****wits and I would rather 90% of Liverpool posters on this board take control of the club instead - the 10% would be Gerrez (Neymar <doh>), Zingy (we'd have the thai ladyboys playing for us) and MFG (doesn't post anymore, but he'd re-sign Dalglish. To play).

Aspas is the worst player since n'gog to play for lfc

2 mil back from celta max IMO

Will be done in August as they are too cheap to pay his wages till they have to.

Re "advanced" can mean one thing to Spanish and another to English

Glad to see you recognise my football genius <ok>

Couple of the redtop rags are saying we'll be in for Mario Balotelli if/when Suarez goes.

More ****ing lunacy on the pitch if that nightmare scenario was to come off.<laugh>

Well, people have been talking about replacing him like-for-like and Mario is about as close as we'll get to the sheer craziness that is Luis Suarez.
Pity he's nowhere near as good a player.
