I think £56m is a good opening bid TBF and them trying negotiate a cheaper deal is only to be expected. However, as Biscan said earlier on, we need to make it clear that we expect the release clause to be met and have no interest in negotiating a lower amount.
The problem is as soon as we sell Suarez, the price of all our targets will jump 10m just as when we sold Torres or as with spurs last year. I think we need to get a replacement first and then sell.
Jo chesty didn't play for lfc he ran away before he ever did imo F sake this is auto correct btw and is funny as **** Konchesky is jo chesty!
Ballague latest As it stands Alexis not part of the deal for Suárez. But not definitive. Despite personal agreemnt with Arsenal, LFC hope to convince him
Can we at least force them to sell him to Juve instead? Could do without losing Suarez and Arsenal getting Sanchez.
This. I feel we are just setting things in motion. Barca to spend on Suarez and then need to sell Sanchez, who will go to Arsenal. Thus greatly weakening ourselves, whilst strengthening our rivals.
Latest from BBC sport. [h=1]Luis Suarez: Barcelona talks productive, say Liverpool[/h] please log in to view this image By Ben SmithBBC Sport Liverpool have held "productive" talks with Barcelona over the proposed sale of striker Luis Suarez but no deal has been finalised between the clubs. Reds chief executive Ian Ayre spent much of Wednesday in discussions with senior Barcelona officials in London. The Reds remain adamant Suarez, 27, will not be sold for less than the release clause in his contract, believed to be between £70m and £80m. "The talks held were productive," a senior Liverpool source told the BBC. "There are sensible expectations on both sides. "Further talks and discussions will take place but no deal has yet been finalised." Suarez, who has four years remaining on his Liverpool contract, is serving a four-month ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup. Play media Watch: Fifa spokeswoman Delia Fischer announces Suarez's punishment He joined Liverpool for £22.7m from Ajax in 2011. Speaking at a media conference on Wednesday, Barcelona club president Josep Maria Bartomeu said: "This year we are going to restructure the team in depth and we are working on that. "We have been working on that since February, but I can't reveal things we are doing. "We have to be discreet - we can't give clues to other teams. "We do have a lot of negotiations at a very advanced stage, but the World Cup is going on. People are speculating about a lot of players at the World Cup, but there's a lot of different factors." Pressed on Suarez, he said: "He's a great player, a global star and we want him to play as well as he's playing up to now. I'm speaking as a football fan. "He's a player who needs to rebuild himself and get back to playing football." Barcelona are understood to want to pay closer to £60m for the player, and any deal may depend on whether they can include Chile winger Alexis Sanchez, 25, in part-exchange. Liverpool are pragmatic about Suarez's ambitions and are aware he would welcome a move to Spain, and particularly to Barcelona. It is not yet clear whether Sanchez would be willing to move in part-exchange, although Bartomeu indicated the Spanish club wanted to keep him despite interest from other clubs. "I can confirm we have received offers from several clubs for Alexis Sanchez, not because of what he's done in the World Cup, but what he's done before," said Bartomeu. Play media World Cup 2014: Uruguay's Luis Suarez appears to bite Chiellini Suarez apologised on Monday for biting Chiellini, after which Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta said: "Suarez has shown he is humble enough to admit an error, which is very important. "Everyone knows Luis is an excellent player, everyone knows last season he played in various positions in attack, but everyone also knows he is a Liverpool player." Bartomeu described the player's decision to apologise as "honourable" and "good for football". "He did something wrong and I think it's everybody in football's responsibility, whether it's Liverpool or others, to help him to go ahead and press on with his football career. It's not easy to admit your mistakes," he said. Croatia midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who completed his move to Barcelona from Sevilla on Tuesday, also praised Suarez. He said: "The fact he has had the character and the strength to go in front of everyone and say sorry says a lot about him as a person."
I'm not going to slag Ayre here but if it's now purely about convincing Sanchez to buy in to our vision surely it should be Brendan talking to the player not Ayre?
Yep, thats the way to do it, spend all your money and get the replacements in first. Then Barca can sit back and look at your spending and increased wage bill and say "we have reconsidered, £57mil is a little too much for this player, we will pay you £40mil or move on to another player". How do you stand then?
So lot of journos saying initial bid was £70M cash and was rejected, New bid not to be made until Sanchez decides where he wants to go as LFC still interested in an integrated deal if possible.
Its done and dusted, matth managed to get us £72m. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/268227-72-million-for-Suarez?p=6710100#post6710100
We're totally in the driving seat. 70 million pounds or get lost. Wait, since we are so TOTALLY in the driving seat, make it 80 million pounds or get lost.
You have to be kidding, "listen Alexis, i see you as a false centre half playing in the number 9 position out on the left wing". The guy will just not underestand our English ways and tactical deffinitions
Di Marzio saying Arsenal had 32M euro bid for Sanchez rejected. Sport in Spain still reporting that we're not that interested in Sanchez. Who knows what to believe.
