Just watched the highlights of the day's play. That's a huge effort from the England. The bowlers pitched it up and got their rewards. I didn't know how the day had finished so I was praying that Root would stay in for tomorrow and that we wouldn't be more than 4 down. Two sessions now before the lights come on. We have half a chance. Best moment for me was the barmy army taking the piss out of Smith with their "review" gestures when he'd used all his up. Priceless!!
This would be on a par with the 1981 Headingly win if we pull this one off. Still highly unlikely as 315 is the highest ever winning score there and we are likely to face the new ball at some stage tomorrow but pride has been restored. Root can become a legend if he doesn't run out of partners...
It’s going to rest on Root, Ali and Bairstow, though if Woakes can hang on for 30 it would be huge. Keep the heads lads, there’s plenty of time. I reckon the Aussies will be having a sleepless night, thinking of the shame and humiliation if somehow they **** this up.
