Good to hear him say the system he will use, will be the one that suits the players he has, no square pegs in round holes.
From what I have read and heard about him, his first appointment as he alluded to in his interview with the club, is to get someone in that knows the club. Unless he brought back Mike Phelan, which was never going to happen, then Tony Pennock is a very good choice. Very impressed with him during his time with the U23's. Frankly I would like to have seen Nick Barmby brought back, but that was never going to happen either.
Highly unlikely now, money talks sadly. Fans favourites though are the Jak, who has just been awesome in goal, and is also a great character on the pitch. I'd be genuinely sad if he left us. The rest get my support while they wear the black and amber, but if they go, they go.
I think that's a bit unfair on Meyler, he had been a reliable player and good servant to the club. I would be sorry to see him go, as he is just the sort of player you need in the Championship.
Well I agree in so far as I like him and the type of player he is, or can be. Same for Elmo. In my view he's been brilliant for us, despite my Mackem mates telling me he wasn't PL quality back when we bought him. Dawson also fits into the same category. I just can't bring myself to get properly attached to players at the mo in the way I was, and in some respects still are, of Deano. Might be my age, but I just don't see any "club legends" such as Deano or Ash. Decent players, who do a good job, and who give it their all, sure. Legends, no. Happy to support while playing for us, but if they go, they go. Jaks the only one who's come close because he's such a great character.
Leicester are about to appoint Michael Appleton as their No.2. He's got a really poor managerial record.
Just got an e mail from the club from a Slutsky e mail account. With his first interview at the KCOM. That's maybe progress?
The greatest captain we've ever had - captained us from the bottom division to the premier leage. Ian Ashbee or 'Ash'. As long you know about Ash it's all good https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Ashbee http://www.ambernectar.org/blog/2016/09/famous-five-ian-ashbee/
Pretty impressive video from club, his English is excellent and pronunciation very clear, must have known the language for some time, (much better than Marco). His ideas are informed and what you might expect, he seems to have a good grasp of things in general. Time will tell but there is perhaps room for some optimism.
One of Leonid Slutsky’s first tasks as Head Coach of the Tigers will be to complete a team of backroom staff to work alongside him. Slutsky has appointed Tony Pennock as First Team Coach, the Welshman returning to the Club after being part of the coaching set-up under Mike Phelan in 2016, but there are still positions to be filled and the former CSKA Moscow boss says he has plenty of options to assess. “There are some vacancies in the backroom team and we will of course have interviews for new coaches,” said Slutsky. “There are many options. It could be some people who have history here at the Club like Tony or maybe ex-players. There would be no problem for me with this and I am happy to work with a domestic coach (Tony Pennock). “Whoever we have on the staff, we will work together because we will all have the same target.” Once his backroom team is in place, Slutsky and his staff will then look to communicate thoughts on a style of play to his squad and he admits he is adaptable when it comes to systems and formations. “I adapt my system to the players that I have available,” added Slutsky. “Brian Clough once said something like ‘there are no good or bad formations, just good or bad players’ – and I think it’s about having the best system for the players that you have. “What you have to do is show the strength of your players and hide any weaknesses that may exist. “Of course we will be looking to strengthen the squad in the next few weeks. We’ll be looking at one or two central defenders, a left-sided defender, a couple of forwards and maybe an attacking midfield player. We’re looking at six or seven players to come in and this is something we are already working on.” http://www.hullcitytigers.com/news/article/2016-17/interview-2-3730753.aspx#IDPHEel62hRS2ypI.99
By the sounds of that we'll be playing a 4-4-2 diamond system... no mention of signing wingers. unless he means forwards as wingers & strikers?
