Stoke have appointed a certain Paul Lambert. I think this was their 4th choice signing and I only hope he can cut the mustard in the PL. Not sure Stoke fans will be that thrilled.
Also, DF claims that we have made £30m from transfers this season. Do I take it that this means the sale of Howson, Dorrans, Josh M and Pritchard? So where has all this dosh gone? Even paying off AN and buying/loaning the new players who came in this season, surely we must have a fair chunk left? I am sure some of you NCFC accounts watchers will have the answers.

I have a feeling there was a bit of a gap in the finances and an overdraft to pay off.

The whole concept of this argument is ludicrous. A major principle of capitalism is that the Company rewards the shareholders for their investment. In football the shareholders are expected to put money into the Company for no reward. You cannot generalise. There have been instances, too numerous to mention, of rich owners buying Clubs, not following through with promises and leaving the Club in a worse situation than when they arrived. Equally there have been instances where sensible investment has been brilliant - how else could Bournemouth be where they are with a ground holding 10000? Would Chelsea and Man City be where they are now without mega rich owners - of course not - but owners can lose interest or die and then what happens. Look at Blackburn and Wigan as examples. Southampton have rich owners but how much have they had to put in? They still fund themselves by sales - £75m already in this window. Arsenal and Liverpool have rich owners but they do not put money in. Liverpool are another Club who have bought and sold wisely making large profits in the transfer market. How much have Tottenham spent overall in assembling their squad? Did Leicester win the PL because of massive investment? Who went up from the Championship last year? Newcastle have a mega rich owner who refuses to spend his money and neither Brighton or Huddersfield bought their success. Coventry were a family run Club surviving in the Premiership when, under pressure from the fans, the Club was sold to investors promising riches and success. What happened? Look where they are today - they don't even own their own ground anymore. Remember the rich owner taking over a previously family run Club 40 miles down the road. He soon lost interest in funding that drive for success and they are now probably worse off than they were when he arrived. As Dave said on another thread - if all Clubs in the Championship had mega rich owners only 3 would still be promoted and 4 would still be relegated. What we need is a Norwich supporter who is mega rich and who is prepared to pump endless funds into the Club until we have produced a team good enough to survive in the Premiership - I can't see an orderly queue forming.

You make some good points but I would argue a couple. I'm not sure either of Wigan or Blackburn make good examples, they had investment far beyond the clubs general means and had the best years in living memory, that they slumped afterwards doesn't mean that they weren't the best years, they have just had to accept a return to their place in the natural order.
I take your point on the profitability of those clubs in the transfer market, but I'm not sure it's as cut and dried as all that, Liverpoo have made some astoundingly bad transfers and just have to take some flack for Andy Carroll £35m, Coutinho and Saurez may have balanced their books but I always thought of them as serious overpayers.
newcastle spent lots of money to go back up, maybe through sales the net spend was not enormous but, they went up just as Wolves will by flexing of financial muscles others haven't got. I would also argue about Brighton having bought their success, in their last two years in the championship they had net spends of £13.45m and £8.75m (Numbers obtained from Transfermarkt) with no incoming fees. They didn't spend as dramatically as Wolves, but did their revenue streams really increase by those sums of money without any parachute payments? Did they build more slowly but with serious investment? absolutely. I think thats what we want. Of course as you point out, this is what Evans attempted but failed and now ITFC are buggered. A warning with all the other ones true enough.
Are they trying to trim the size of the Championship? 4 down 3 up? What we need is some investment to get us back to the PL and then sensible recruitment and running of the club to keep it there. I will keep buying euromillion tickets when it gets over about £60m just incase!

I am not against change of ownership, although you probably think I am but I am very wary of those who argue that getting rid of Delia is the answer to all our problems. Takeovers can be good or bad. They can be good in the short term but bad in the long run and can be a disaster from start to finish. Even at the top end of the game there are differences. In Manchester you have 2 examples. The owners of City put money in - the owners of United take money out. The important thing to me is that Delia put her money in because she loves the Club and she realised that the chances of getting her money back were small. If you think that only further large investment will achieve success then Delia is not able to provide that which is why the Board have taken the restructuring step they have. It is quite clear that this restructuring is fully in place although at least one person on here refuses to believe it and still thinks that Delia organises transfer policy, picks the team and is determined to run the Club into the ground thereby making her investment absolutely worthless. If anybody is to take over then my first requirement would be that they have a connection to the Club and preferably a love of the Club but if you add to that the financial clout required both in the short term and the long term then the list of candidates is very restricted. I might be a minority of one but to me a love of the Club is more important than the size of the bank balance.
I'm pretty sure those 4 sales are what he is referring to, except that it was Jacob not Josh. The first three along with the clear-out more or less balanced the books with parachute payments due to end. The savings in wages must have helped as well, which is why it was said 'we don't have to sell' in this window. The £5m bid for Pritchard came in and was immediately knocked back. The subsequent bid of £11m wasn't accepted, but neither was it rejected, possibly because Pritchard made his wishes known. I'm guessing that we squeezed another £1m out of them plus the £2m in add-ons. With Wildschut and almost certainly Martin going out on loan, any loan fees and wage savings add to our flexibility in this window. Pritchard's fee will be paid in installments, of which only the first will be available now, but we should still be able to bring some players in and be in reasonable shape when the summer window comes.

A good indication of what a prospect he is. Benfica’s youth recruitment is pretty damn incredible. Shame we missed out, but can’t compete with that. A good sign our recruitment team can pick out a player though.

JM Fan: that was a long time ago! Good point Cromer, but there is always an exception to this rule? As it looks like CJ is on his way to the Peak District I was wondering if CM was worth a punt? Doesn’t look very promising on the striker front with CJ off and Basil just, well, off. Anybody for 1-5( 2 wing backs)-3-2. It would make a bl**dy change to have two strikers for a change! Most of goals have come from AM players.
