Re. Olsson. The Championship is no place for players who feel they are slumming it. It's a league for players who roll up their sleeves and get on with it, which is why Bradley Johnson seems to thrive there. I'm not necessarily saying that Olsson is a prima donna, but he is giving off the signs of someone who thinks he is operating below his natural station. So my inclination is to say let him go. I always felt Garrido was an intelligent player who read the game well and is a team player. Also, we never used his deadball skills to the full because Snodgrass insisted on doing everything. So I think we could cope without Olsson. I'd much rather lose him than Redmond at the moment.

Completely agree. I'm not keen on this attitude of Olsson's, especially when he's been relegated twice...

Fair point. He has improved over the season, but as Iwan Roberts pointed out, he was at fault for both Cardiff goals in part on Saturday, and has been at fault quite a bit throughout the season IMO. Partly that's been through being instructed to get further forward but given the amount of stick Whittaker has received I'm surprised Olsson has avoided as much criticism. Whittaker at least has contributed with a couple of goals despite defensive frailties.

Has Whittaker had a better season than Olsson? You could certainly make a case!
Most games Whittaker has played, his cover at CB has been Russell Martin, who in that position hasn't exactly had a stormer of a season. Switch him to RB and hey presto, mazy runs and assists <magic>
Fullbacks do tend to need a reliable CB shielding them in case they get caught out of position.

Agree Martin had a stormer on Saturday. So pleased to see him back in his best position

Clearly a major flaw in Adams management technique was to let a player - albeit the club captain, start dictating where he preferred to play. Tail wagging the dog. Nipped in the bud from day one by Alex Neil, it's great to see <ok>

Where do you get the idea that Martin dictated to Adams
as to where he played???
Some comments on here are weird to say the least.

My bad. I just googled it and found this:
“I had a chat with the gaffer {Adams} and he prefers me at centre-back,” said Martin. “I’m playing there for Scotland regularly. I spoke to (Scotland manager) Gordon Strachan in the summer and he told me he wants me playing there regularly if possible.
In which case it's a flaw in Adams management technique of not deploying people in their most effective roles. But you're off the hook, Russ. :emoticon-0105-wink:
Apologies.

Good apology Cromer. I think it's easy to get carried away about what's going on behind the scenes. We have only heard that 'Olsson wants away' from the Daily Fail, so let's not read too much into that either. All the Nationals seem to immediately assume that when a rumour emerges, the player in question wants away. They've done that with Redmond and Ruddy as well.

As others have pointed out, Naughton may well not stop them wanting Olsson.

Apparently they have bid £4.3m while we're holding out for £5m.

I know prices are inflated these days, but even £4.3m sounds like a decent deal to me, given that transfermarkt say we paid £2.55m for him and his market value has gone down (unsurprisingly given his injuries and his variable form).

Hooiveld also unsurprisingly on the way out.

If we sell him for, I think it would be well worth investing a lot of it in a left winger who can also play wing back. Then Garrido can be our main left-back, with cover from our left winger and Whittaker depending.

I wonder if Neil might have his eye on bringing in the promising young Hamilton LB Hendrie, who's very highly thought of up there. There's also Toffolo on loan at Swindon as well.

Swindon Manager and fans so impressed that they have raised the cash to keep HF at Swindon till the end of the season!!!

I believe that Toffolo played central defence in the youth cup. The left back was Ben Wyatt who we released. But by the feed back from Swindon he is a very promising prospect. Whether he can reach the standards we require is another matter though.

Garrido is a solid option for our LB position now but IF we do go up this season, we'll need to look again. From memory he really wasn't too inspiring for us in the PL. Perhaps a solid run of games and increased self-confidence will help with that, otherwise Olsson was, and will likely be the pick of the two.

He had an excellent season on loan from Lazio but then started the next season badly and Olsson came in and played so well he never got another look in.
In this league I too would be happyisb with Garrido but only if we are commited to playing pace on both wings. If we do sell MO we probably need a pace left footed winger.
