Early afternoon all.

Pleasant but a bit cloudy...lurgy almost gone...coffee reasonably digested.

Disappointing result yesterday but sounds as though we didn't deserve points. Looks like it's going to be a gentle glide towards a mid-table finish but then I'd have settled for that in August. There have been plenty of pluses this year, not least the apparent stability under Malky and GT. It would be criminal for any new owner to put that at risk. If the play offs begin to look out of sight I'd guess it also means more playing time for our promising youngsters too.

Interesting to hear people's take on foreign policy. There's certainly no question we are more reluctant to intervene where there's no economic benefit. The genocide in Rwanda for example was on a massive scale. There is undoubtedly an issue about hypocrisy here but there's likely to be an increasing question of resources too...our military might relative to the rest of the emerging economies of the world will surely diminish over the next decade or two?

Phew...that was a bit serious...must have been something in the porridge<laugh>
 
Ak - the daily number of posts on 606 must be down to an all time low - the Nest there has had no visitor for over 22 hours - shame but it is done.

W_Y - you need to come here - if we are unlucky we have 3 cars go past in a day - any more than that and we think it is getting like the M25 :) Seriously though unless you are a sun seeker the west Pembrokeshire coast is fantastic - we took a short break there recently and you can walk for literally miles along the coast with fantastic views and there are great bays and so on - mind you for some it is too quiet of course.

Ak - I assume the great UK is in world cup Division 1 of the ice hockey ???:huh:

Theo - it is good that on here we can actually go a little bit more than one dimensional and share a polltical view or two without the Beeb censoring us. Oh yes and I noticed that in your list yesterday yo udecided not to include Neo from the Matrix :)

W_Y We had a great trip to Madeira couple of years back.... not such a long flight and a quiet and spacious Island with lots to things to see etc. We stayed here on the quieter north side of the Island and we hired a car.... http://www.montemarpalace.com/ worth a thought.
 
Madeira's worth a visit, as is Essouira on the coast of Morocco. I also like Corsica which has popular resorts but plenty of quiet spots, especially in the interior.

Mrs H fancies South America...but, having flown to most corners of the globe in my time I'm with W_Y, the shorter the flight the better. Planes seem to be designed for midgets who like junk food and other peoples' noise:emoticon-0120-doh:

No doubt I'll also be having the debate soon about how far we go later in the year or early next. Last time we agreed on Egypt but that's probably out of the question now and as for Libya...
 
Thanks for all the holiday suggestions, I forgot to add that it also has to be a bit warm..:emoticon-0107-sweat. So that does preclude St. Kilda and West West Wales - although I do quite fancy a few days taking in those walks Lenny described. Other complication is the weather in some places in late July - can Monsoon or Hurrican season in some areas - blimey, this is difficult....

Seems the Windies are making a bit of a fist of it against India - so England still do not where they will be playing yet...:emoticon-0120-doh:
 
Great Britain are ranked 23 for men and 18 for women
They are in Division 1B with Estonia Kazakhstan Lithuania Poland and Ukraine of the seniors
Division 1A of the u20 and u18 champion
The women are in division 2

Ísland are ranked 38 for men and 28 for women
The seniors are in division 3
u20 in division 2A
u18 are promoted to division 2
and the women are in division 4

The top division is called top division and is above division 1 and both Great Britain and Ísland do not compete in the women u18.

A good places for holidays without children is Færeyjar or Svalbard and Jan Mayen
 
Madeira is great for walks the whole island is crossed with levadas,,, water ways that because they carry water barely incline and you can walk along them.

Morocco is great too... Essaouira is lovely (I worked in Casablanca i the 1970s as a teacher) There is a bit of hassle factor.

Corsica lovely too... lots of variety from mountains to beaches..

My bro and his wife are going on a cruise to Sweden, Finland and the Baltic later in the year - that ought to beinteresting
 
Leo thats one mighty big fly that needs swatting quickly!!! I dont think the takeover is complete yet,ie whilst we had a chance of play offs the good lord may stall! thats why yesterdays defeat brings the days of baz ever nearer! I agree football wise we are not ready to go up,however the survival of wfc could depend on going up! I still feel that if baz takesover that we are doomed for one reason or another I cannot shake off that bad feeling!
 
Afternoon All,

Just back from my 4 hour dinner at L'Auberge du Clain. I do love it there, and it is becoming very popular as I gather that people were unable to get a table for today. Very good food and wine and middle price range makes for a very enjoyable time. :smile:

It looks as if we will be going back on Saturday for yet another meal, this time with live music. Then Sunday our friends suggest we meet up and go to another restaurant that they like. Unless I work very hard this week, I will not get in my Hornet shirt. :emoticon-0120-doh:

Anyway just been checking my mail, and came across this.

To be honest - given the lack of detailed information being given out I am lost on the front as to whether or not it is a done deal - I did think I saw that it was but have more things to do in life than trawl through Bazini's offer. If you are right and it is not a done deal then I guess Ashcroft could change his mind if we went up.

All in all though the takeover is so completely wrong that I almost think I am in a parallel universe where idiots like him can be allowed to get away with it.

Very depressed about the takeover and as I have had a stinker of a cold all week which keeps coming back when it starts to go away my head is too fuzzy to think -ugh
 
I don't trust people who give no detailed accounts or satisfactory explanations about finance and just say "trust me" I spent over 30 years in finance and found those were not the sort of people who you should generally trust.
 
Leo, it is a done deal surely. LA and Simpson have stated that they will sell to Mr. B even if a higher offer comes in. The only thing that would seem possible to stop it, is the Bazzini crowd fail to provide the cash they have promised.

GT and JW do not actually seem too worried, but then they have not really had to explain all of the details. Too many questions and not enough answers still.

Sorry you are feeling under the weather. Hope it soon clears up.
 
Glad you had a good meal OFH - restaurant sounds good. I think Norway is hoping that if we go up LA will reconsider as he would not want to miss out on the £100m or so that promotion could bring
 
Saddos like me who are interested in Astronomy note that today is the Spring Equniox. Also that yesterday was a full moon with the moon just about as close as it ever gets to Earth and so had its "apparent" size was 14% bigger.

Yes - I know - I should get out more :)
