I lived in the States for a while and played many times in Myrtle Beach, I'm actually buying a condo out there soon so hopefully I will play there more. I'm off to Portugal with my big brother in 2 weeks to play 6 rounds, I can't wait.
Went to Portugal a couple of years back, the Algarve, We played a course call Quinto do lago, nicest looking course i have played, met Shearer and a few other mags playing there while we were there.

Because that is supposed to be how many shots you need to go round the course to equal par.
If a course is a par 72 and you are a scratch golfer, playing off 0, that means that you should play the course hitting 72 shots.
I am a 12 handicapper so i should play the course hitting 84 shots (72 + my handicap of 12)
A handicap is just the level of golfer you are, don't know why its called a handicap? The lower the handicap the better the golfer, the most you can have in the Uk is 28 if you are a man and 36 if you are a women.

Reet ive kinda got it. So id be 100 to start with?

Are all courses 72 par thingy?

Has anyone ever played with (thats sound raging) or against any famous golfer?

I can only name 3.

Seve the spaniard
Tiger the shagger
Norman (dont know his first name) git big blonde bloke. Aussie or south african.
I had a round in January with Mike Weir the Canadian bloke who won the Masters a few years ago and in the group ahead of us was Gary Player .....Golfing Royalty

German men's handicap goes up to 36 apparently. No wonder they lost 2 wars!

One of the lads who I used to play golf and pool with before I moved works for Nike. He's played with Lee Westwood a few times. Meets a lot of the pro's obviously, with his job.

Went up to watch the Dunhill Pro-Am a few years ago. There's a famous pub, The Jigger Inn, next to the course. Had lunch next to Darren Clarke (another guinness man!), and a few others Lamby and Beefy.
Drinking alongside Thomas Bjorn, Paul McGinley, in the evening.

Its a great tournament to go and watch. We were chatting with some ex-footballers on the practice day on some of the tee-boxes. Good craic with Jamie Redknapp, a real down to earth lad, Ruud Gullit, less so, and the likes of Bill Murray who was just great!

Thats my name-dropping done for the day.
mate of mine who i golf with works for the European Tour, she is pretty high up there and meets all the top golfers.
After the Ryder cups she comes home with loads of freebies that are left over, always get a brolly and a couple of tops that are "spare" :emoticon-0142-happy

A rightie who plays leftie.

Played right-handed ice hockey but left handed golf I think.

Had a good win on him when he won the Masters!

a nice guy as well Blunham, has had some really bad marital issues in the recent past..but was good crack on the way round. Gary Player on the other hand is a total cock. I was luck enough to meet (not play) Ernie Els, Phil Mickleson and Ricky Fowler at the HSBC championships, all them top blokes. The photo is of my Friday society (well of few of them) and Ricky Fowler, I'm the fat guy on the right

That'll look good on the wall in your new place out in Myrtle Beach mate.

I'm sure he'll bounce back and get himself another stunningly gorgeous wife soon enough. These rich sporty types never seem to struggle in that department.

Having recently bought a new driver, 3 wood and iron set my game has rapidly descended into a pool of ****!! I was playing off 15 however it's going to take me a while to get used to the new equipment. Hoping to get to around 10 by the end of the season.

So thats 87 shots in a game but want to get to 82?

Think ive got this now.

So what the hell is all this bird malarky?

Is there dress codes on all courses?
Depends on the courses.
I play on a public course so its pretty hard to have a dress code for the general public, but as a member of the club we always adhere to a dress code, mainly no jeans and polo shirts.
I would imagine all private clubs are strict with dress codes, all of them that i have played in anyway.

nearly there assuming the par for the course is 72, my course is quite short so it only plays to a par 67 <laugh><laugh><laugh>
All courses are different and their par reflects how long and difficult the courses are.
It could be a short course with wide open fairways which will be a lot easier to play than a long course with tight tree lined fairways.
That is always the challenge of golf, playing the course to your handicap, if that makes sense.
