He's always been an idiot. Now he's a washed-up drunk, it was unlikely to get better. Who the hell would pay to listen to an evening of his anecdotes? Jesus wept!
We were a bit out of season for the lights, but still got to see them one night. Completely by chance but very cool. I'll try and upload one of the long exposure photos we took. In terms of costs, we flew Wow air from Bristol for about £150 return, then the car hire wasn't cheap. We camped and took loads of food out with us, so that kept the rest of the costs down. Several campsites were completely unstaffed and we couldn't find anyone to pay if we tried, which was a bonus. Fuel was probably our biggest expense, lots of time spent driving an inefficient 4x4. Altogether, I reckon my costs for the week were about £450? £70 of which was a Whale watching trip, which was the only activity we actually had to pay for. Spoke to some Danish people whilst out there who took a 3 day ferry, so presumably other options exist. Could probably stop off at the Faroe Islands en route.
Wow! Even Jeremy Kyle admits to being 'shocked' with the behaviour of some people on Prince of Wales Rd on a Saturday night http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/what...t_to_norwich_s_prince_of_wales_road_1_4702378
Unfortunately Cromer, I don't think it's unique to Norwich, though I do know an ex policeman who cited working Saturday nights as one of his reasons for quitting. I do feel that the people who end up needing hospital treatment as a result of alcohol abuse etc should be made to contribute towards the cost of their treatment.
For any self-inflicted issues like drink or drug abuse I agree with you 100%. Look at the length of waiting lists for people with genuine needs and they're not helped by half the hospital staff deployed in A & E helping pissheads!
Oh, look out - here comes a new 'stealth' tax on our already over-taxed society http://www.suffolkgazette.com/news/environmentalists-plastic-five-pound/
Ironically, DH, guess what just appeared on my twitter feed! Oh well, you'll have a better idea and a few more pointers next time http://misstourist.com/8-things-you-should-know-before-renting-a-car-in-iceland/
Not really sure I agree with most of that based on my experiences, thankfully. Realistically, we probably spent 50% of our time on gravel roads and the F-roads, so a 4x4 was a necessity, and with 5 of us plus lots of kit we needed that sized car for the space if nothing else. Our car wasn't that efficient, but given the size I don't think we'd have found anything too much better.
But where do you finish with such a policy? Once you have targeted the drinkers and drug takers what next? Shall we stop fat people from free treatment because of their reckless eating habits? Or just all people who eat Junk food? I carry a bit too much weight and hate McDonalds (It's the beer what does it!) but know people who seemingly are blessed with an unwaivering metabolism that allows them to eat crap and drink what they want. So if you eat McDonalds (Surely the Heroin of the food world to the uneducated) then irrespective of weight should you be treated? we all know it's bad for you, even the uneducated! And what of people who play sport? Many a person has had to have hospital tratment after a broken ankle or torn ligament while playing football. We all know the risks when we play, so should we at the very least be insured to pay for treatment of our own or others injuries? We don't have to play a risky sport! It's like the selfish bastards who end up risking others lives by getting caught out at sea in treacherous conditions for leisure perposes. Should we stump up for search and rescue and any other resources for their frivolous persuits? And when you refer to genuine needs, what is a genuine need and who decides? Have they done everything possible to aviod their hospital visit? Granny KIO needs a hip op but used to do the twist a lot at the disco. Dave's had dogs all his life and picking up all those turds has given him a cronic back complaint and what about cromer, picking up all those crabs has left him as a frequent visiter to the N&N. Whilst I have questioned your point, fundimentally I agree. But I'm not sure just the individuals should be punished or made to pay. Too many pubs will allow these younguns to get in such a state. These businesses need to be hammered if someone leaves their establishment in a vomity, comatosed mess. They may not be able to stop the fighting as i have seen plenty enough nobheads who will do that sober or under minimal influence but again they can play a part in reducing it. The solution of course is to all have health insurance instead of the NHS and then if you can afford your premiums then you can risk what you like! Bah! Bah!
So how about a fit, healthy guy on a waiting list for treatment alongside a 40 a day smoker? Do you not think the stretched resources (financial & physical) of the NHS are not entitled to prioritise between them?
Sorry, I've opened a complete 'can of worms.' My daughter was telling me she saw quite a large lady in Chapelfield Shopping Centre the other day with a bag containing 3 dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts!!! Did anyone else see this news article - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20255141 #wordsfailme Maybe the answer is to have some form of medical insurance, as the cost of financing the NHS is growing exponentially, with a lot of it as a result of people living longer and having more complex health issues.
I think the NHS should look at the context of the respective treatments. If the treatments are unrelated to smoking then I don't see why you should discriminate. If the treatment is in someway self inflicted then perhaps it should be. I.e if it is the smoker needs treatment for lung cancer. But also if the healthy guy has injured himself rock climbing without a harness. All people who use the service need take some account for their actions, that or none. Bah!
Off for a walk along a section of the coast path today. Stiffkey -> Blakeney, with a probable pit stop in the Morston Anchor along the way. The Wells -> Stiffkey part is lovely too, but 4 miles is enough for me these days
That Mason bloke from Binnersville is a disgrace, he knew he had a problem and I remember seeing an article saying he actually wanted to become the worlds fattest man. The summariesed what he was eating on a daily basis and it was disgusting. The worst thing was that his mum just kept feeding him what he wanted. I mean FFS women, you are basically killing your son, it wasn't like he could actually get his own lazy carcase out to the chippy to stuff his face. I guess this is why a sugar tax is actually a good idea. If CrappyD's cost 20% more and the added funding all went to the NHS that would represent some progress. The people who get in these sort of states are predominantly the poor, so they would be unlikely to be able to afford any insurance nor prioritise it as long as they are on benefits and getting it all for free. Thats why I'd tax it at purchase and at least then the NHS will see some support to treat them. Losing weight can be tough, I know that I always struggle with dieting, I excercise a bit and have hovered in weight for the last 8-10 years since giving up because of injuries. I find giving up beer for anything more than a fortnight is impossible, not for the need of alcohol, more the fact that I love the social down the pub and it ain't the same if you're there on lime and soda's. Everyone knows what to do eat less (Especially crap) and excercise more but I do have simpathy for those with mental illness as I can see what a vicious circle it can be. Like fat bastard. But more could and should be done to arrest these peoples slides. We've all no doubt had a bad day and though F#ckit Beer'O'clock, some people are stuck in a series of bad days.
