Wolves are the latest club to make a move for Bristol City's in-demand striker Nicky Maynard, Sky Sports can confirm.

However, a deal still appears some way from being done and it looks increasingly likely Maynard will stay at Ashton Gate.

Wolves are looking to do a number of deals ahead of the window closing and Maynard is very much on Mick McCarthy's radar, and contact has been made.

Whilst City would like to cash in on Maynard, they will not let him leave for below what they see as his value.

Maynard himself, meanwhile, is seemingly in no hurry to make a deadline day move - knowing he can leave for nothing in the summer when his contract expires.

West Brom, Stoke, Fulham, Southampton and West Ham have all been strongly linked, whilst a move to Wigan failed to materialise last week as the player was not keen on a switch to the DW Stadium.

Now Wolves will hope they can strike a deal with both the player and club, but time is running out for something to happen.

Oh dear. We bid up to 9M for Maynard and it now looks like they are going to get nothing. Who is Maynard waiting for, Barcelona to come calling?

Everton was linked but it now looks like they are going to get Nikica Jelavic

Maynard somehow thinks that because he can leave for nothing he's going to get some bumber wage at a club in the upper reaches of the PL (and also start weekly).

Fact is he isn't and the sooner he realises that and stops screwing with the Bristol fans the better.

Well with him now not being in the Bristol team and not scoring goals he will only get a move to a low prem team. Beckford spat his dummy out a Leeds and then apologised and get back into the team and scored the goals that got them promoted. He left there as a hero because of it and has everyones best wishes apart from Uncle Albert of course.

While when Maynard leaves now Bristol will just want to see him fail

Yeah Sven signed him, he was on loan at Wednesday earlier in the season

Did you hear about the fan at Goodison park tonight who handcuffed himself to the goalpost

Yeah I hears that <laugh>

Max Rushden said that Man City should handcuff one of their fans to the other goal and they should play on <laugh>

If Wet Sham get promoted then their new signing, 18 year old Ravel Morison will be on 65k per week.

But obviously it's Leicester 'buying the league' with the signing of 20 year old Stoke winger Ben Marshall for 750k...

The biggest losers yesterday was Bristol. Sold Maynard for 1.65M, we offered 9M just a few months back and now they have lost nearly 7.5M on him

West Ham down to 10 men with 82 minutes to go.

We've seen the exact same type of tackle with Mills against Brum. Nolan won the ball but went in two footed, although you could tell Nolan went to hurt Smith. His didn't take his eye off the lads shins.

Dirty tackle, red card, come on Millwall!

Players know 2 footed tackles are red cards so why do they do it?

The FA should make any sort of 2 footed tackle a 5 game ban
