Steve Bruce did well at Birmingham but took them down and then back up. He spent quite a bit and used the loan market very well
Did well at Wigan but again spent a decent amount
He spent alot at Sunderland and they couldnt wait to get shot of him. They was struggling and looking like heading for a relegation battle but MON saved them

All a myth, he spent barely anything at Wigan, as they recouped most of it selling on the better players he brought in and at Sunderland he spent £15m less than he generated in players sales.
He's still got a fat head and looks like a dinner lady though.

It doesnt matter if he managed to re coup the money but he did spend it wisely. Asamoah Gyan was a big money signing and with in 1 year he wanted out. I think he is a good choice for you but he isnt as good as his repuation makes out.
